Based on My experiences appts can be hit or miss. Bottom line is when a customer walks in if X lady is available and unoccupied she's taking the appt no matter what even if she has a "so called" appt. I've done appts and just walk-in's and It's the luck of the draw I assume unless your a daily or every other day type of visitor. The ability to say "I'll be back" is a good option and sometimes gives you a sneak preview.

I decided to try a new place yesterday in Kirkland. I called and scheduled an appointment for 1:30. I arrived on time, entered the building, was met by Mia and guided to a room.
