Wow this topic has blown up! I'll throw in my experiences and call it a day. I have seen providers who clearly were drug addicts. I have seen providers who couldn't work real jobs for various reasons and who were clearly not drug addicts, and I have seen women from SD and AM who simply wanted to play, and didn't expect any money. Their motivations are about as varied as us mongers.

I hate to take Johnny B's side but I believe he is essentially right. Vast majority have some type of chemical addition. Addiction to the money is a factor for some but there's more to the story. I do this hobby not because I have to, but because the dating pool is so shitty due to the fact of all of the damaged women out there, and its just easier and I have more time to myself by doing the hobby instead of dealing with shitty drama. So, people should treat people with respect, no matter who they are. Not sure why more people don't get that. The women you meet for an hour, may have at one point had it all. We actualy don't know. I'm not saying you can't ask, but there is honestly most of the time, no way to verify what she tells you. And no way to verify what other mongers on this board say either for that matter.
