Prof,

I would say that she probably got the wrong vibe. She is an independent lady that has to be very careful. She obviously had not met you before. Her English isn't the greatest, yet she wanted to make sure you were legit and not LE. Had you dispensed with formalities at her pace, you would have been rewarded with quite a nice acquaintance. Sorry things went wrong for you. If you do call on her again, be straight forward as she has a good memory. She may tell you "no" over the phone. If so, take it as a lesson learned.

Professor. I recently had my attitude adjusted about front-ending formalities. Another (more senior member) posted some thoughts on the subject.

In almost all other segments of this service industry, advance payment is the standard. Only in massage-based entities is the norm sometimes to split-payment (some up front, some at the end) or to try to collect all at the end.

Business first is protection for some and not really rude if you are new to the provider.

As you know, if she knows you "dispensed formalities" are never an issue! ;)

It's a "survival instinct" that takes over, sometimes it's spot on, sometimes not...but either way it's her call and even more important as an indie compared to working in a spa environment.
