That turns out to be exactly backwards: the Feds were looking into Spitzer (because of "suspicious money transfers"--they say), and he led them to the Emperor's Club. The managers and staff of the club were the ones who were "in the wrong place at the wrong time".

Spitzer would have been nailed either way. If he had simply put the charges on his Visa or wired the money directly (and used a non-traceable cell) he may not have actually been caught. The tryst would have happened and only he and his special lady would have known.

Police Cite Ad On Craigslist

PLAINVILLE — Police have arrested a local woman on charges she worked as a prostitute from her home.
Jennifer Roy, 34, of 51 Bart*lett St., was arrested Saturday after a two-month investiga*tion. Police Lt. Brian Mullins said Roy advertised on web*sites including Craigslist, an online classified advertising site. Mullins said local police routinely check such websites to see if anyone is advertising sexual services in Plainville, and started investigating Roy after seeing an item she had posted on Craigslist.
“This was an ongoing oper*ation, and she had a group of clients,” Mullins said. He said it appears the activity had been going on for at least a year.
Craigslist does not permit advertising illegal activity such as prostitution, and Mul*lins said the ads Roy placed there did not explicitly say what she was offering.
Mullins said an officer working undercover went to Roy’s home Saturday, saying he was responding to her ad. The officer told Roy how much money he had and Roy toldhimthatwouldbeenough for an hour of sex. Mullins said the officer then signaled to other officers who were waiting and they arrested Roy.
Roy was charged with pros*titution and risk of injury to a minor. Mullins said the sec*ond charge is because Roy’s 17-month-old son was in an adjacent room when the offi*cers went to her home. He said the state Department of Chil*dren and Families was noti*fied about the situation but that the child did not appear to be neglected or uncared for. Roy posted $1,000 bail and is due in Superior Court in Bristol on April 2.
