It's also the start of sweeps month. The various LE agencies and DA offices know full well that the local TV stations like hooker-bust stories, and they'll get air time if they round up a bunch of folks. Especially if they can throw a "high tech" angle at it.

Here's a little trick I noticed on craig's list.
Before you reply to a post, highlight (with mouse or ctrl+a to highlight all) the ad.
After you highlight, look for very tiny text with weird names. That's tracking text that the spammers use.
As an example, here's an ad with the text:
