After doing a bit more research on this website the way they get you is if you reply to a fake ad on BP that asks you to text or message only. The website does exist and there are guys out there stupid enough to text themselves into their database and if you've used your real name, they can supposedly pull pictures from any social networking site you may belong to. They of course want you to pay them (blackmail) to remove your name. As you suggest the safest thing to do is to have a hobby phone as well as using due diligence before calling a provider you don't know.
