Tijuana is fairly safe these days. There is plenty of cops around and will not bother you so obey the laws and do not something dumb like urinate in public. I always walk across the pedestrian bridge to downtown and have not had any problems. I would recommend that you go during since you are new to Tijuana. I have been going in the at night around 7 or 8 pm and have not had any problems.

I'm sure there are some legit providers but the odds are not in your favor. I've used the angencies a few times but still it's hit or miss. The border wait on my 3 recent trips was 20 min the first two times and 2. 5 hours the last one. I didn't realize that it was a Mexican holiday to celebrate their revolution and I'm guessing this caused the traffic jam because lots of Mexican citizens with visas were crossing into USA on their day off. My non-holiday border wait times were quick so do your homework and consult a Mexican calendar. A parking option if you want to drive into to Tijuana but do not have a hotel is to park at the Plaza Rio. It is an American style shopping center with secure parking. It is 24 hours, gated, and you need your parking ticket to exit which makes it very secure. It is about a 5 dollar cab ride from the Zona. The time I parked there, I only parked there about 4 hours and it was reasonably priced. Anyways, this time I arrived at my hotel around 6 pm paid 320 pesos (approx $23 USD) and hit the streets. I always change money to pesos as this will definitely save you money in the long run. Took the abc bus from rosarito at the 7 eleven on the south side of town. 80 pesos and one hour later arrived in ensenada. Tijuana city planning department seems completely disorganized. It is completely ridiculous to expect people to cross a busy street when there is already another walkway by the canal that is not even being used.

Get a feel for what it's like and where things are located before you walk. You will see a big arch near Zona Norte, use it as a reference. Streets in Zona Norte are on a N-S-E-W grid system, but they go every which-way near the border crossing. Walking routes between the border and Zona Norte are different than driving. Many locations are dangerous, especially at night.

I've stayed in Tijuana motels also but availability is hit and miss and you never know what faux paramilitary bureaucratic raid will happen (usually before an election). I like to get back over to this side after playing down there. Hope this was useful.

I visited the Zona Norte for the first time a little while ago. Cross the border easily enough and took a cab to the zone, after a few beers in Hong Kong I sampled two street girls.

-the.Change your dollars in San Ysidro at the money exchange across from Jack in the Box for the best rate. Got 15.05 pesos per dollar today. Your money will go farther paying in pesos. If you use an Atm card at HSBC in Tijuana you get even more. Took out $500 in pesos today at HSBC and got 15.136 pesos per dollar and walked a half block to an exchange place and sold back pesos at 14.82 pesos per dollar. About $10. Or 2 percent profit in five minutes. I do this almost every day since I live in Rosarito.

-the.My experience is that the bar girls will quote dollars. You can counter with a peso offer that, assuming you remember the exchange rate and aren't too drunk to do the math, will get you a better deal.

Don't have that much experience with street girls. The few I've done quoted dollars. Of course I'm an obvious gringo.

You don't need that much Spanish, particularly if you stick to the bigger bars. They all know "fucky / sucky. " If you want to get a little more adventurous you could memorize "comer su panocha?" (not sure if that's exactly correct, but, usually gets an enthusiastic smile. I would recommend at least getting a handle on the numbers. Up to 100 if you'll be dealing in dollars and up to 1000 if you'll be dealing in pesos.

BUT go get a Sentri card (like I did a year ago) and you get straight to the front of the line. Example last Sunday I crossed back to US at about 1:00 pm, the line stretched to the taxi drop off, probably 3 hour wait. But I walked to the front and was through in literally 10 minutes.

The hotel that is above Bar Tropical is called something like Rio de Oro and I agree not to bad as you can bring the girls from HK to your room at no charge.

I just returned having spent yesterday July 24th and last night in Casadas (the hotel above the Hong Kong club). So this makes 4 overnight trips to the Zona in the past 2 months.

My observations. The quality of the girls at both Adilita and Hong Kong bar is way BELOW average. Spending 3 hours last night in AB I was hard pressed to find a suitable girl to unload a weeks plus worth of baby spatter into, and I am not that picky of a person especially when I need simply a release.

IMHO the HK club is not, at least in my observations both last night and on my other 3 recent visits, much better in terms of quality and for that matter the quantity of girls. It was a meat market / sausage feast last night (I. E. Too many guys and not enough good looking fun spirited girls).

As with everything in the Zona things change so hopefully the quality and quantity will improve.

As far as finding it in Mexico be very careful. IMHO I don't think its worth it. I too in years past bought some joints and enjoyed. This was back about 1998-2002 but the rewards versus the risk does not come close if you get caught. This is weekend so the clubs get packed at about 9 PM on Friday and Saturday.

As far as time to go play, to each his own but why not head over a little earlier (I. E. 4 or 5 pm) before it gets packed then experience the evening of debauchery.

If you will be staying over night at a motel near the Border, why not take the next step and stay in TJ instead? If you get an overnight room at Hotel Cohuilla or Hotel Cascades you will be able to legitimately brag about ".... the night you spent in a Mexican ***** house." Plus, there are definitely advantages to having a room in one of the hotels associated with one of the bars. Probably a few generics available now at cheaper cost. But, quality may suffer. I tried a generic back then (a yellow tab, supposedly from Brazil) and got nothing out of it.

As far as I know, it still requires a prescription in Tijuana (just like here). So, make sure there are no policia around when you come out of the pharmacy. One alternative is to buy a water in the pharmacy and gulp the tap down before you exit. Of course you'd be scarfing down a 100 mg tab which might supercharge you a bit too much, even for a night in Tijuana.

Hot in Tijuana this past week. Sat at Hotel Nelson's outdoor table to people watch and drink beer. They offer a bucket of ten Coronas for 200 pesos. About $12.50. Too hot to eat so the ten beers had me reeling since I downed them quickly and on an empty stomach. Quite a few cute chicks walked pass in that hour. Got a hardon in my head. Countries send information to Interpol about criminals.

Mexico is probably just checking Interpol.

Countries DO USE other countries passports for verification and control.

Every foreign country I've been to stamps my American passport with a Visa mark and scans my finger print.

In theory you need a passport / passport card or one of the other similar documents to get back into the US, in any event.

Or the line at the border to get back in the USA was too long so the guards just let everybody in without checking them and we know this is not happening at all. It don't add up. You made Some good points though, but the articles has a lot of holes in it and makes no sense.

Walked across from San Ysidro through the new building today. Immigration person directs you to one of three lines. Mexican nationals, extranjeros (foreigners), and permisos (six month FM2 visas). Went to the middle line which is for 7 days or less and no internal travel (furthur than Ensenada). There are four stations. Gave my passport card and comfirmed less than seven days and local travel. Agent filled out the form and had me sign. Took three minutes. Walked to security check and pressed the button. Damn red light came on. No visual check but put bag through airport type x-ray machine. Exit the building and walk down ramp. Saw that the walkway took a left and then right down another much longer ramp with a long line of yellow cabs lined up in the distance. At the end of the first ramp I ducked under police type tape and took the street one block to the street where the line to enter the USA starts when it is very long and doubles back. Fifty feet from there walked across the bridge that crosses the lanes of cars crossing into USA. From the end of bridge half a block to the walkway that crosses over the Tijuana River and two more blocks to downtown. I think most Americans not familiar with the walkways will now just take a cab. The businesses along the old path are left out like fish out of water now. The path is mostly used by people walking to the border who are not apt to stop to shop, eat, nor drink on the way to the border. For those whose SOP was walking from downtown and Zona Norte to the border nothing has changed. The walk from the border to Zona Norte is now about three blocks longer.

Was conducting some business in Tijuana today. Didn't carry much cash on me because I was counting on getting pesos at the HSBC ATM. No joy. Card was not working. What to do. Walked the zona and very few lookers at 4 pm. Oh well went to my standby. Told my sob story to my Gilf. She was about to leave for the day. Twisted my arm and said don't worry about it. Went to my one hour 60 peso hotel. Flat screen works, shower works, ceiling fan on the blink. No other room available. Oh well deal with it. Took a shower and the Gilf was waiting naked on the bed. First thing she says. Did you already drink some beers? Last time I saw her I had just downed 10 Coronas in a little more than an hour. She was a champ and still managed to do bbbjcimws to this old dinosaur. LOL. This time she did some rimming since I had just showered. Some of her normal excellent BBBJ.
