Having a website that publishes the number helps to reassure providers that the number might actually be legit (still not 100% proof, because it's not terribly difficult to set up a BS website, but better than nothing).
Just the way things are these days if we want to stay safe. Personally, I'd much prefer to see a provider with stricter screening. Though, that's not an excuse for her to have been rude.

The sites that live on the servers being accessed have no https: at all, and http: is displaying totally unrelated content.
