BOSTON — Online classified site Craigslist will replace its "erotic services" ads with a new adult category following pressure by state authorities after the murder of a masseuse who advertised on the site.
The "erotic services" section will end within seven days and be replaced by an "adult services" category where advertisements will be individually screened by Craigslist staff, Craigslist said in a statement on Wednesday.

Craigslist's sex-service listings have faced intense scrutiny since the April 14 murder of 25-year-old masseuse Julissa Brisman, who advertised on Craigslist in Boston.
Philip Markoff, a 23-year-old Boston University medical student, was charged with killing Brisman and with attacks on two other women who he met through Craigslist ads.
Craigslist, a 14-year-old online bazaar that generates more than 20 billion page views per month in 50 countries with a staff of just 28 people, is partially owned by online auctioneer eBay, which bought 25 percent in 2004.
Along with free listings for everything from apartments and furniture to jobs and cars, Craigslist.org carries one of the largest and most controversial sex-service listings. Its rapid growth and low-cost business model have hurt newspapers by siphoning away advertising revenue.
Postings to the "erotic services" section will no longer be accepted, Craigslist said. Postings to the new section, which opened on Wednesday, cost $10. Once they are approved, they will be eligible for reposting at $5, the website added.
In April, Blumenthal asked Craigslist officials to eliminate photographs in the "erotic services" and similar sections of the site, hire staff to screen ads that violate Craigslist rules and offer incentives for people who flag and report prostitution advertisements.
"We will be monitoring closely to make sure that this measure is more than a name change from erotic to adult and that the manual blocking is tough and effective to scrub prostitution and pornography," Blumenthal said.

Amongst the rash of spam in Casual Encounters are ad's for women looking for "assistance". I keep an eye out for these, because in the past, they have let to some nice experiences with non-pro's. However, with the crackdown, looks like some of pro's have moved to this area.
This one has been posting on both the Hartford & New Haven boards, so I e-mailed her. Came back with pics & phone, pics looked OK (body, no face) so I gave her a call. After my close call, I decided to try Nikki again. I got through to her and, guess what, she was at Bradley. We set up something and I met her at her hotel. Further, don't do outcall to your place, at least certainly not until you get to know the provider (as if you can really ever know) or at least trust to some degree, certainly not blind on the first meeting. Don't feel too bad, consider it a relatively cheap lesson. Most customers have been ripped off in some fashion or another, if not so blatantly. Since they now know where you live, any explicit attempt at getting even is very I'll advised. The fact that you went to some effort to warn people is commendable. Also, since LE probably monitors boards, if they consider these people enough of a threat perhaps they'll go after them.

I would suggest a couple of things:
1) Stick to well reviewed ladies. TOFTT in safe areas and locations unlikely to lend themselves to problems (i.e. decent hotels)
2) Keep in mind that these ladies earn a living on the other side of the law. Probably not a stretch to think that some of them might be willing to do a few other things that are also on the other side of the law.
3) With #2 (above) in mind, never provide them with, or let them see, any personally identifiable information.
4) #3 (above) would seem to include not providing them with your home address, therefore, don't entertain at home
5) When going to visit someone, bring only the cash you need, your keys and your burn phone. No watch, no wallet, no ID, personal cell, nothing
6) Listen to your intuition. If something seems to be getting dangerous, bolt. Driver usually does it for me.
7) if you follow #3, 4 and 5 and you have to bolt, all you need is your car keys, pants and shirt, in that order (shoes and underwear are optional). Hide-a-key wouldn't be the worst idea for a real jam
8) If things get really out of control, you have your burn phone. call 911.

Hey people, hope you are all doing well. Saturday night after working a little late, I decided to go for a stroll in the Hartford area. Thanks for the info, yes one cannot be too careful. I had noticed this the first time that I had sent E-mails back and forth with a provider. I imagine that they will since the Smartphone company has to keep track of your minutes for billing purposes. Aci-my guess would be this is a fake, at least the pics, or maybe just an agency.
