For those of you in and out of the area, the Dayton Daily birdliner had a long story about prostitution in the city of Dayton in last Sunday's paper. They even included a map of areas where there have been prostitution arrests. 6 of the top 10 areas are in West Dayton. The other 4 are in East Dayton. All of these areas have been mentioned at one time or another on the board.

One interesting thing is that the number of arrests is dropping drastically since 2003. This doesn't meant that we or the ladies are getting smarter. The article mentions that the reason is the vice unit has shrunk in size.

The article says that they are now charging prostitutes under state law so that the city doesn't have to foot the bill for the housing of the ladies. The county does.

Additionally, there are plans to have a John school as well. The cost has not been set yet but it will be paid for by each person who has to attend the school. This is in addition to the $500 fine for soliciting prostitution. I would imagine that the graduates of each class will have their names featured prominently in the Dayton Daily birdliner like those who have been featured in the past.

Guys, pay attention to detail and you won't be caught. Keep an eye on your surroundings and don't just stop for the first possible SW you see. Sit back and look around. Don't think with the little head. Think with the big head and you should be okay.

The article also tells us, "Under Ohio law, police must catch prostitutes engaged in a sex act to make an arrest. That's especially challenging with few undercover officers."

First of all thanks for the reports Mw Jrp, it is nice reading for a forum that recently seems to be quite neglected. (Although cant point fingers, guilty here as well!)

First thing is to read the 22 rules for mongering that Jackson has posted on the home page of the site. Good sound advice there for general mongering rules.

Second, is to do what is commonly called "RTFF" (this is defined in the abbreviations link above). Do your homework and if you have a specific question ask it.

Third, get out and do some street time. Cruise the areas mentioned and get a feel for the neighborhoods. Maybe not pick up someone until you feel comfortable with the situation, but make reports on whay you see and read the feedback.

Fourth, be prepared to take some flak until you've earned your wings. Basically, mongering is illegal in all 50 states, so more experienced mongers are a bit leary to pass on real specific info to a person with very few posts and who have not passed on good and verifiable information. Some senior members, and I can be one of them, will really come down hard on an obnoxious newbie. Your question is not unusual and how you react to the suggestions will say alot to how you are later received. We all went through the newbie stage. So work with us and don't expect the world handed to you, you'll do well.

HoHo, there are some ladies on the street you probably wouldn't want to pick up just based on their appearance. The current state of Vicki is one of them.

If you truly believe you can tell the health condition of a person just by looking, GUESS AGAIN.

On a more constructive note than bitching about mongers who do not use condoms...

Digital cameras these days are ridiculously inexpensive. You do NOT need a 4 megapixel camera. And you should not be carrying around a $$$$ camera if you are mongering... Here are the features I would look for:

1) A macro feature that lets you take pix at 12 inches or less. You know why.
2) An image display that is large enough to resolve details you are looking for. My biggest complaint is that many mongers take pix that are out of focus. This could be because either they are not using the macro function, or and not concentrating on focus... (Why would that be?)
3) Small enough to fit easily into your pocket. (KEEP YOUR LENS CLEAN.)
4) Optical zoom of at the very least 3x (more is better). If you want to catch street scenes, zoom with high rez is important. Digital zoom is worthless.
5) Flash is carried on most cameras theses days. Two points: Ask the provider first for permission. A flash can ruin your adventure. And be aware that a flash in a car catches everyone's attention in the vicinity.
6) Easy connectability with your computer. USB port is easiest. How much storage do you get with your camera? MOre is better. 32 megs is a starting point.
7) Try to find out the battery drain factor. It SUCKS to have your camera die on you just when you were going to take the money shot.

These days, you should be able to get a satisfactory camera for under $200. Maybe, cut to the bare bones, around $120.

I have not done the research on which specific camera for you. Look at Consumer Reports (tho they go for high end). Other mongers? Any cameras which fit theses criteria?

I just upgraded my large digital to a Nikon D300 with an 18-200mm zoom. For other times when I don't want to carry that monster, I have a Canon A750. Smaller than a 12 pack of condoms. It has a 7X zoom, has a max of 8 mega pixels, though I set it to about 3 (even then shots have to be reduced to post here). I have a camera pouch that fits on my belt, right next to the cell phone.

It uses SD RAM and a lithion ion battery. Battery has a good life span, but I always carry a spare just in case. A built in lens cover and I use a PDA screen cover, cut down to size, to provide some protection to the screen. The screen is large and bright.

I saw the Canon at BJ's for 189 the other day.

Another reason so many shots are of poor quality is the lighting, especially from a cell phone flash. The A750 has a very good flash up to about ten feet.

You'll also want an auto shut off to save the battery, but when in action, try to keep the camera active. It's just as bad to have the camera turn it self off as it is to have the battery die.

Not trying to pick a fight as I half way agree with you on providing the correct street names. But it is no worse than using local slang to identify a place.

However, I lived in Dayton of over a decade and trying to keep track of when and where a street name changed was damned near impossible.

Consider that N. Dixie and S. Dixie never meet. That Wilmington, Woodman, Harshman, Needmore, Shoup Mill and Turner; like Keowee and N. Dixie; are all the same street. Okay, I might give in on Wilmington, but not the others. :)

Directions are pretty much meaningless. Main, Riverside and Keowee all meander pretty much north south. Siebenthaler actually does run straight east west (did someone goof?) and then we have Ridge which intersects the previous four. Stanley going from Helena to wherever it becomes Findlay runs (?) north, east and then south.

Those who live (or have lived) in the Dayton area know most of the street name changes. Given the few legible street signs, I'd give an out of towner a break if he doesn't know the proper names, but is close. Especially when he's both finding ladies and then reporting on his finds.

As to getting a room at the DMM, I did that once. I'll pass thank you. Once was two times too many for my tastes. About as low as I'll go is the Best Western (or whatever it is now by the defunct Denny's) at the circle or the Holiday Inn on Waggoner Ford. Stayed at the HI last year when I visited. Only thing I found out in force then were LE. :(

Rolled the East streets 11am and spotted several around 3rd and 5th. As I was working passed them all. But later that eve rolled around 7pm. East and Main were quiet. The only thing I was trying to say (I'm glad you halfway agree) is that accurate street names will help the out of towner who goes into a city forum he may be visiting in the future. Local slang hurts because the out of towner probably won't know what the locals are talking about.

I did the DMM thing once too. It's a different kind of experience for sure that's only gotten worse over the years I'm sure.

Basically, yes the SW are out and it's all dependent on time of day. I will agree that LE is more active at night as are the SW. That basically means you have to be more attuned to your surroundings at night than daytime especially because of lower visibility. Now, Dayton LE generally won't run stings at night for the same reason. Lower visibility jeapordizes their decoy's safety. They prefer days and early evenings.

Well, that PD 'station' is about worthless. LE is really never there except for shift change when the go in for roll call or to get their car and leave. We have the same situation here in the Newport News area.

I'm glad to hear that the projects there on Helena are coming down. I drove through there a couple of times when I lived there. Felt very very exposed. But there is project in Dayton that is even worse. Mt Crest Court (off of Smithfield and Radio road on the eastside). One road in, winding with speed bumps and lots of dealers.

Next time I make a trip to Dayton, I'll let you know and we can get together.

Maybe I'm just hitting the streets at the completely wrong times but it seems dead as hell lately. Well I was headed back from Dad's about 2:30 pm yesterday and had some time to myself so I thought I would go out and see if anyone was out. I decided to check out the no-tell motel on Neff first.

I was surprised to see that the chain blocking access was gone. Maybe they finally decided to get rid of the hassle or new management but it's nice to see that it's gone. There were plenty of cars but I didn't see any SW at all.

I no longer live in the Dayton area, but I'll pass on some info that will help you in the long run.

As a newbie, don't expect people to rush out and give you info they have worked hard to get. It is fairly common knowledge that LE reads the various forums for their local areas. There are reports that LE has even used the PM feature to gather info to make busts.

I am not implying that is your situation, but I am saying more senior members are wary of providing good intel to unknowns, like yourself.

Keep in mind that our hobby is illegal. So if senior members play their cards in close, don't blame them and don't hold it against them or take it personally.

If you have been reading the forum, get out and do some home work. Make some reports on what you have found, where you found her and the like. Basically, you need to earn your wings. This is a tit for tat forum. You give some info you get some info.

There have been, on various local boards, recommendations to make all info exchanges through PMs. I strongly oppose that.

One it means that LE and the moralists have won. The open exchange of info is no more. Secondly, it hurts newbies like you. If a board only allows reports through IMs, then how would someone like you earn the trust and respect of other members.

So if you do not get any PM's with available numbers, don't take it too personally. Just having one post and that asking for info and not providing any in return is not going to earn you too many new friends.

Hey we were all new here once and we all had to go through the initiation period. That time varies from board to board and how well you interact with the others. If you come across as everyone owes me info, you won't succeed.

So do what is called RTFF (see the abbreviations in the menu bar to the forum), get out and report.

I agree with Seva completely. Personally, I'm not fond of people who don't have many posts and start asking for contact info from the get go. It makes me wonder what their real motives are. I have also put (when I have contact info available) senior members only. Yet, I can always count on one or two non senior members sending me a PM asking for the info.

My response is always, RTFF!

It may be harsh but it's true. If you read the forum for any length of time, you will learn where the spots are, what to avoid and what you should pay. Seva is correct in saying that there was an initiation period. We all had to go through it.

I don't know of any senior member that will share contact info right from the get go to someone who isn't a senior member. The digits were probably hard to come by and also why should we mess it up with someone we don't know a lot about (By that I mean a lack of reports or very low number of reports). It's a safety measure for the senior member and the SW he has the number for.

As far as how much info to give, there are two trains of thought on the subject like Seva said and also I agree with. PM only or enough info to help someone out. I believe in general info. That's the purpose of the forum. You don't give out specifics on your report, only generalities that will give a good idea of what happened, what was paid and where to look. It's a balance really.

However, one thing you do need to do is avoid giving out any personal info on yourself (type of vehicle that you drive). One monger from Columbus area did do that and even posted pics of his face one time doing someone in the back of his type of vehicle. Not too bright.

Too much info is exactly that. Too much. Not enough (PM only) is a waste of a post. It's a good bet that LE does read the board and I'm not too surprised by them sending PM's to people either. It only makes sense. LE has also been going after Craigslist escorts so why not use this forum as well to get the hobbyists.

Think about it. Most LE aren't stupid. They know what's going on in their area. They know who's walking the street when they see them. They know the very nature of the no-tell motels on their beat. However, I also know that some LE are bent and will look the other way as well. Those are very much in the minority though there are some who also just don't want to waste their time doing the paperwork on someone that nothing will happen to.

So RTFF and learn like we all did. There is a list of rules/guidelines for hobbying on the main page. Get out and scout the area where people are posting about. If you want info, post info. Prove to us that you are a good risk to share info with. Once you do that, then you'll know what the senior members are talking about and why we don't give up the contact info so easily.

We are being nice about this. I know several other senior members who would have tried to skewer you and roast you over an open flame. If you doubt this, do a search in the DC forum from several years ago and look for posts by "Trashman".

Have mongered all over the world and contributed lots of information on that forum. Many years ago I used to cruise Dayton but actually much preferred the AMPs as opposed to the SW's. Well, guess what, there are hardly any AMPs anymore except when I get up to the Warren area. When I was cruising it seemed all the action was on N. , Dixie and N. Main st. But it was dangerous because of LE. I have been RTFF and have general idea of some locations and, as a matter of fact, I was in the area Tuedsay evening and have looked around Siebenthaler at Dixie and drove E. 3rd st. Saw nothing. Some of the other streets that are mentioned (e. G. Neff) I don't know where that is. Guess I could google it.

It's not particularly difficult to verify and/or view a specific posts on the 'other' forum. Simply do a 'member search' and the member's name and total number of posts will be displayed. It's then not very hard to view any/all of that member's specifc posts and forums they were posted in.

OTOH, given LE's recent verified penchant for using these forums to do their job and gleen info for potential busts, I can quite understand the hesitancy of regular posters to provide info to new members with extremely low post counts, regardless of how many posts they might have on another forum.

Scroll down and there are a few posts from a coonie from 2005. If you want to search more advanced it will make you register for a user name (didnt bother with it) and the next screen actually came blank saying to register to go any further, but he is on there. I stopped by the Love Boutique about 4:30 Monday for a visual comparison to the old McCook. It has been remodeled. The main "store" area is the same size but it is much better lit and significantly upgraded from what it was. The look is more like the Hustler store south of Dayton, in fact there a lot of Hustler merchandise everywhere. The indiviual theaters are gone as are the VHS tapes, replaced by DVDs exclusively. Lots of toys, clothing, and the like.

Access to the rear area of the store is restricted by a two dollar turnstile. Behind it are a couple of dozen individual video booths with limited privacy and sporting a touch screen video system that is ironic as well as upgraded. The stage area is surrounded by individual boths (a buck for 2-3 minutes) and new "private show" booths (that start at ten bucks). There are two shifts of girls 9-4:30 and 4:30-? . There were three girls on duty when I arrived, two chubby and one reasonably thin if nor older (40s). She was saggy covered with streach marks and dispite the attitude of a SW and the end of her career. Doable. Out of courtesy I asked for her phone number which she declined.

I talked to the guard as I was leaving and found that it had been over 5 years since the McCook to Love Boutique transition occured. Boy time flys.

Biehl support this administrative order (as, politically he must) it remains to be seen what the rank and file will do. They are creative and may well find a violation that while equally dicretionary does not fall under the guidance of the order.

I guess time will tell.

Spent over 3 hours driving around Dayton: My hunt Started around 5pm, I returned empty handed around 830p.

Just saw a report for Indianapolis and it seems the LE is making a new effort to close AMPS and escort Services as they negatively impact neighborhood businesses. I recall back in the "80's and 90"s when North Dixie had hookers on about every corner, several jack joints and the nice private club in the basement of the Denture clinic. All of this has gone down the tubes because it supposedly had such a bad effect on local businesses. Drive down North Dixie now and see all the empty buildings. It seems to me the adult bussinesses made the neighborhood thrive.

I recall driving up and down Dixie when I moved to Dayton in the mid 80's. There were two MPs, way up north near Little York Road. There were also a couple of titty bars further south. But Dixie never really had a lot of business on it. So closing the ones that were there, the adult ones, just made things look worse.

But one must also consider the POV of the people who lived near the 'nuisance' places like the MPs or titty bars. They brought less than favorable people into their neighborhoods.

To give you a couple of examples of why people living near such places complain.

Tucson AZ in the mid 70's had 50 some MPs, most in trailers in trailer parks. When Tucson and Pima County (the county Tucson is located in) decided to close them (let's all thank the then county attorney Dennis Deconcini for his moral crusade, yes the former Arizona Senator). When one of the MPs was raided, one of the girls working there was 15 and lived in a trailer nearby with her parents. Sorry, I didn't like the raids, but had that been my daughter, I would have been happier than a you know what to have the MPs near me closed.

Tucson AZ, again, this time mid 90's, several neighborhoods organized watches to report prostitution and drug use in their neighborhoods. Main issue that started it. Young child comes in to house and asks his mother to help him blow up a balloon he'd found on the street in front of their house. Yep you guessed it, a used condom dumped by monger or hooker after 'finishing' their business. Again, if this happened in my neighborhood, I'd be one PO'd MF.

Newport News VA, where I now live. One motel (like a couple on or just off of Dixie) was closed by the city because of the 'problems' (that is drugs and prostitution) there. The motel is on a busy street, but has a relatively nice middle class neighborhood right behind it.

Any city or town with a prostitution 'problem' and you'll find that there are drug dealers and other assorted unsavory characters nearby.

Even in Dayton. I picked up a lady at her house one day and watched the neighbors write my plate number down.

So while the neighborhoods may seem to be dead, it isn't necessarily the closing of the 'adult' businesses that is to blame. Dayton has had many abandoned stores and factories for years. I am sure the recession hasn't helped.

I'd also be willing to bet that if you looked closely enough, you'd find at least some neighborhood resistance to any new businesses trying to establish themselves on Dixie. The lots that front Dixie aren't all that deep and access to them is pretty limited. The residents don't want the 'traffic'.

How much information to include is really personal choice, but keeping too much out does not help and being too explicit puts everyone at risk to being caught. Fine line.

I do not agree with people posting too much personal information, not to mention Jackson will delete if he sees it. Full names, phone numbers, specific street addresses, etc are a bit too much.

Also, a good beat cop does know what's going on in their patrol area. If they are aware of their surroundings, they know what's happening. The thing that is on our side is what is the political environment of the moment. Are the citizens getting into an uproar like on Xenia Ave or North Dixie?

I also remember that there were actually 3 massage parlor's on Dixie. Two down by Little York and one closer to the Traffic Circle. Those were good days back then and they lasted a while until the citizenry decided it was time for them to go away.

At least two no-tell hotels have been closed for being a nuisance based on citizens complaining about the amount of bad traffic they bring. You can bet that the remaining ones are watching and know they may be next as well. They are being picked off one by one.

With the economic downturn and there being fewer LE as a result one would think they would need to spend more time on the homicide cases and real crime prevention as opposed to hassling the hookers. No, no, the Swim Club was just North of Needmore on the East side of the street behind a transmission place. I never went there but always wanted to. Last I heard of it was when it was being picketed by some church group. The other club (the one of which I speak) was on Dixie and Wagner Ford on the West side of the circle. And it was a fine place!!!There are still 2 swingers clubs operating in the Dayton area.

One is right on Salem ave, north of Good Sam hospital.

The one on Needmore would have been the K & G Spa. It got raided and closed a while ago.

Dayton Swim and Social Club closed because the owner stopped. It wasn't closed because of a church group picketing it.

Club One is the swingers club on Avondale off Troy St.3

The other one in Dayton is Club Temptations on Salem Ave.

There is one in Middletown, several in Cincinnati and several in Columbus.

The prices for single men are steep and you shouldn't plan on hooking up the first time or two there because you're not known. Once you're known, it's a different story entirely.
