Wierd, I've never been jipped on the massage time.

Man arrested after refusing to pay prostitute's cab fare


Milwaukee police probably wouldn't have arrested Adan if he had done just one simple thing: pay for his prostitute's cab ride home.

The 36-year-old flatlander from Prospect Heights, IIL, was arrested at a south side motel last week after police said he and a prostitute he had hired got into a loud quarrel when he refused to pay her cab fare.

When officers arrived, they found cocaine powder on Adan's nose and upper lip, about $300 on him and $67,400 hidden in his minivan, according to police and a criminal complaint.

Adan already had paid the prostitute $40 for sex, the complaint says. If he had simply picked up the cab fare, (or driven her back home) he probably wouldn't have attracted attention, said Milwaukee police Lt. John Kaltenbrun, who is supervising the investigation.

"Why he would go and be so cheap and stupid probably had something to do with the cocaine," Kaltenbrun said Monday. "You've got to love people, don't you? Sometimes they amaze even me."

Adan was charged with conspiracy to commit delivery of a controlled substance and obstructing or resisting an officer. He faces more than 40 years' imprisonment if convicted of both charges.

Kaltenbrun said Adan worked as a "mule," transporting drugs and money for a Chicago drug dealer.

Adan usually didn't know whether he was transporting drugs or money because other people packed the vehicles he drove, but he seemed to know he was transporting cash when he was arrested, Kaltenbrun said.

Officers noticed something was odd as soon as they knocked on Adan's door Sept. 29 at the Suburban Motel on South 27th St.

At first, Adan didn't answer, but police could hear him moving about in the room, as if he were hiding things, Kaltenbrun said.

Once they entered, Adan identified himself by a false name and handed the officers an identification card with a third name, the complaint says.

Officers found several cell phones in the room, Kaltenbrun said. Plastic bags used to package cocaine were on the floor and dresser, according to the complaint.

After a drug dog detected traces of drugs in Adan's 2003 Dodge Caravan, officers found $67,400 wrapped in cellophane in an interior panel in the van, the complaint says.

Even though the money was hidden, Adan had plenty of cash to cover the prostitute's cab ride, Kaltenbrun said.

"He would have had money to pay," Kaltenbrun said. "That wasn't the problem.

Family Friendly City Has Un-Family Friendly Problem

Business Week just named West Allis the best place to raise kids in the Milwaukee area, but West Allis police have an un-family friendly prostitution problem which they say they now cracking down on.

Police said that purveyors of sex have set up shop in West Allis and using mechanisms from Craig's List (sic) to massage parlors.

The West Allis special investigation unit has taken on the prostitution problem and has said that they intend to stop it.

Mike Sherman and his wife have operated Beijing Foot & Body Massage on Highway 100 for a couple of years.

Last month, police raided the shop as part of a prostitution sting.

"They came in six deep, guns waving. I'm like wow. Certainly they would have had somebody in the act of something, if something was wrong, but that wasn't the case," Sherman said.

In court records, West Allis police said that they sent undercover officers into the shop after getting complaints the women performing massages offered sex for cash.

Sherman denies any wrongdoing.

"No prostitution, no prostitution at all. Hopefully, this whole things just a big misunderstanding," Sherman said.

Further north on Highway 100, police said that the Days Inn Hotel was host to a small-time prostitution ring.

Police said that two prostitutes advertised on Craig's List (sic) and saw clients at the hotel.

Ed Laurich lives in an apartment complex on 90th and Oklahoma and he said that a prostitution ring operated down the hall for well over a year.

"Guys coming in at all hours of the day, different guys for short periods of time, it's quite obvious," Laurich said.

A sign now advises visitors that the tenants in apartment 108 have vacated.

Police have arrested two women.

Laurich said that he's thankful that the police moved in.

"I have a 14-year-old son, didn't want people coming in all hours of day and night, getting let in, didn't want to take no chances," Laurich said.

Detectives said that they continue to search the phone and computer records of the suspected prostitution operation to determine if there are bigger players behind the scenes.
