Decided to hit up PURE in the middle of the week out of sheer boredom. Now I understood that a Wednesday may be a slow night but not this slow. I was literally the only customer there. Everyone else was staff. I decided to stay for a drink. The one dancer they had on duty named Mel was very attractive. Slim white chic with a nice ass and small tits with big nips. She had a good attitude also. I watch for a bit, tipped, chatted then left. I will come back sometime during the weekend. Right now I think their biggest issue is available dancers. The spots in town have all the girls locked up. Going to be hard to fill a place that big, plus they only dance upstairs. I hope they get better since it's closer than driving to rock za or 939. I live near 939 so decided to stop in for a visual warm up to my session at Rejuve (check that thread for my great experience there).
One dancer here had surgery or something so she doesn't actually take her clothes off and a small rebellion of the guys around her stage almost started. One guy yelled out "Wow. I saw more skin at the beach today".
I decided to wait till the second round of girls and an overweight black chick named Dallas and a really overweight white chick took the other stage. I threw down some singles and just walked out. That was EASILY the worst strip club expierince of my life. It was a joke and I almost asked for my $8 back.
Do not misunderstand me, I have been to 939 and had a blast many times. Even had my b-day there and finger fucked Asa Akira in front of a crowd and bouncers laughing as I was 3 knuckles deep.
Tonight, Was just sad.

Think the strip clubs are in a decline.Not all are in decline. I went to Rock Za and Ballerinas last night and both were standing room only. Rock Za has had a line up change since I last visted about 2 months ago. I was told my two favorites Aubrey and Mina no longer work there. The girls were working it, no standing around, and no waiting to take it off. One thing I noticed is EVERYONE has tattoos. I don't really mind, but it may be a turn off for some.
Ballerinas is across the parking lot, upstairs. You get a discount if you came from Rock Za. The crowd here is mostly youngsters. A handful of girls are 10/10, smooth skin, no tats, no scars, perfect mounds. Some even let you get hands on if you step up to the stage and tip enough. Most of these girls don't have attitudes like the other clubs. If you stay long enough you can see in the rotations that they have a varsity and JV squad when it comes to quality and experience. Even the owner got on stage and showed them how it's done. Several times last night the entire stage was covered in $1's.
Overall I would say these are still the most entertaining strip clubs in Honolulu. The one thing I hate about Hawai'I clubs are the lapdances are way to expensive $40 for 1 song that doesn't even get payed all the way through. When I was younger in FL it used to be $10, and I just came back from Cali and it's $20 at some clubs there, but they do 2 and 3 for one specials. I spent way too much last night (driven by alcohol) but the amount of tits and pussy to enjoyed makes it worth it every now and then.
Last night hit up Pure. No cover but only two girls and only one other guy there pretty much dead. The girls was an Asian and haole chick nothing special to look at. Got a Jack and coke and waited around a bit to see if there were any other girls. After about 15-20 minutes realized this was the best they got tonight and headed over to femme nu. The crowd at femme nu was better. More girls and customer but like usual majority if not all the girls were just laying around looking at their phones. The mamasan was trying to push drinks and the girls were yelled at everynow and then to try get drinks from the guys. The girls were alright mix bag of local, black, Asian, and Haole. There were a couple of 9's at best but we're taken by other men. One guy seemed pretty anxious to get his hotty up to the VIP rooms groping and trying to rush her up there LOL.
All in all I'd suggest staying away from PURE on weekdays til things start picking up and like usual femme nu has hotties still working on the weekdays but the few hotties are normally busy. Oh well guess I'll hit up rockza tomorrow.

Over the past few months, I've been to both 939 and Femme Nu and noticed a steep dropoff from their glory days. I wouldn't waste even a "lets go have a beer and check it out," thought on those two clubs until they refocus on their lineup.
Went to Rockza Friday night and the place was packed with talent. Only standing room was available. Totally worth the cover and standing.
Next, the squad went to BALLARRINAS, which is by-far the best action in town right now. Check their IG and you'll see all the girls flying in from other cities to dance there. The club is run by the owner / dancer at realdyms.
Kind of looks like an illegally run joint, but that's part of the charm. You get drink tickets at the front, then use them upstair for alcohol. You also get discounted cover when you go Rockza first.
The lineup is stacked, bottom line. It is a spot for the younger, rougher crowd, but then again, that another part of the charm I like.
Bottom line, youngest, hottest girls and they have a champagne room that looks interesting, but I didn't go in yet. I would spark the IG and preview the lineup; its a great follow.

I think $13 was the cover for The Wild Horse back in the day (also a non-alcoholic strip bar, where Jazz Minds is now). But then again, for awhile it was the only place you could get a lap dance.

Thinking about going there some time. However, all reports have indicated they don't have very many girls and that the place is super slow.
I know they feature concerts on some nights, so I'm guessing it's a strip club on nights when they don't have an act booked.

I went in last night to check out Rock Za for the first time. I actually wanted to check out Ballerinas but I decided to do both since they were right next to each other. I went in around 930 pm, figuring the action would not start until around that time.
After the obligatory I'd check from the bouncers, I walk in to the cash register to be greeted by the host and the mamasan. Apparently on Friday and Saturday nights Rock Za charges a 10 $ cover. With the cover chargeyou get a drink.
I was shocked by what I saw; I was expecting a dark, dank dive. Instead, I was greeted by the sight of cool neon blue colors and the flashing LED's, which drew my eyes to the girl on the "backstage" which is the stage near the entrance of the club. The girl was a cute, trailery PWT looking haole fake blonde who had her legs spread open clad in only in these strappy leggings and her heels. Her tits were small, but she had a tight body with a nice ass and snatch. She was good an impressive job of twerking and showing her bottom off to the guest in front of her. Across the way, on the main stage near the bar, was this local girl, again tight bodied with a nice set of D cup bolt-ons that were well proportioned to her body.
As stated above, I was expecting a rundown place like other bars I've been into, but instead, Rock Za seemed renovated recently with nice side booths, a rear row of tables against the back of the club opposite the bar. The club has chairs all the way around the sides of the two stages, with two smaller, side stages each with their own poles, which would be put to good use later.
At first, the guests seemed to be regulars, guys who knew the girls and the staff. There were a few guys there having an early party. Getting there at 930 was about the right time to see the main talent trickle in one by one over the next hour or so.
10-11 pm seems to be the right time to be there as the action on the stage began to heat up and the place began to fill. Rock Za eventually grew filled, but not necessarily packed and crowded. In all about 8 girls were on stage or were rotating through, four on the back stage which was quite a sight to behold, since they were all nude or nearly so, and the others on the main stage. The back stage is smaller and so most of their work was confined. There was not much room for them to be acrobatic.
I normally would not comment on the Music, but I noted that it was a good mix of hip hop and pop, and it wasn't so loud that you couldn't hear the girls talking to you or order a drink. I enjoyed it.
I wish their speaker system was a bit louder, or at least I wished they spoke more clearly so I could identify the girls without going up to them to ask their names. It was a mix of locals and haole girls. In addition to the two I mentioned when I first arrived, there were a few that caught my eye. First was a tall white girl with highlighted hair, nice big bolt-ons in a fishnet outfit that lifted her huge ass. I know its good form to tip mama, but she was such an entitled DB about it that it was off putting. But what's a buck, for what was otherwise a great show?
I went to Ballerinas after I went to Rock Za and it was rather dead. I guess it's a different kind of place. The dancers are much younger, tight, natural bodied, but they were not serving a drop of alcohol. I didn't see any talent that I liked so I beat it. There were a few guys who looked like soldiers who were having a good time, but they seemed to belong with the relative youth of the place.
Perhaps I have low standards, but given the race to the bottom in service and experience that has been trending, I have to say I enjoyed myself. This is a good place to enjoy solo or with friends. There were a lot of groups starting around 1030.

But I still think the bigger impact was making prostitution an easier proposition. I'd have to attribute the decline of strip clubs in Honolulu to various things:
1) They just aren't fun anymore. In the late 80's and early 90's, I have to say that the SC scene was more fun. My friends and I would hang out in clubs where we could relax, enjoy a beer and spend money on the girls. The music back then, IMHO, was more about partying and the general attitude of the club scene was more relaxed. Some clubs even had shower stages, which was quite a crowd pleaser. But, after 1995, more clubs were playing gangstah rap which created a vibe more about violence than about having fun and the customers enjoyment was given lower priority than the club making money. Customers soon realized that they weren't as important to the owners of Femme Nu or Rock Za as they had been to the people running Classic Cat, Butterfly Lounge or Club Rose. Guys got tired of being squeezed for tips at every turn and stopped going to the clubs as often.
2) Wars are bad for business. Desert Shield / Desert Storm certainly had a part in the decline of clubs, as it took a lot of military customers away from Hawaii, but this was temporary. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were even worse for SC business, since they lasted much longer and took away much more of the Hawaii-based military.
3) The economy crashing in 2008 certainly was bad for business. Before the economy crashed, I seldom saw a slow night at Femme Nu and it was nearly impossible to find parking in their lot. But, even a powerhouse club like FN took a serious hit when customers simply didn't have disposable income to spend anymore. Sure, guys want to drink beer and look at naked girls, but they are less likely to go to a strip club if they're afraid that they might not have a job in a couple of weeks. Lack of money and economic uncertainty certainly hurt clubs. Big companies were either closing or severely cutting their staff.
4) Anti-sex politics became the norm. With the rise of people like Andy Mirikitani, strip clubs became the favored target of government crackdowns. Laws were passed against lap dances and guys who went to clubs were being painted as deranged perverts. Strippers were painted as all being sex trafficking victims, drug addicts or worse. This was certainly different from the Stripper Chic of the late 80's when bands like Motley Crue and GnR put strippers in their videos and Hollywood stars publicly dated porn actresses. Add to that the revelations of Mainland pimps' involvement in running at least two clubs in town and the government crackdowns intensified.
I seriously doubt if AMPs played any role in the decline of strip clubs. It was a long time in the making and multiple factors played a role in it.

It was reported in Thursdays Star Advertiser that they will develop the area between 711 and jazz minds. Expected completion of 2018. That means Femme Nu will probably be closing sometime soon. Don't feel too bad for Yuni since she bought the land under her club so she will make millions.

Maybe $20 just to go in (To be safe and free from legal issues, no booze, at all, handled or served). But I would be willing to hear more on the idea of BYOB or private membership arrangements that allow select returning members to 'store' booze on site for your own consumption without an exchange of money involved.
Anyway, there is a modest size room where girls may be dancing on a small stage or even just relaxing on sofas. There would be a menu of services posted, on wall, fees for different activities. A guy walks in, sits near stage or ask a girl he likes to dance. Basic dance and chatting while she's on stage another small fee. If the guy doesn't like her, he inquires with another girl, moves on.
But if a guy and a dancer click with each other, they leave dance area, they go out back into a private dancing room. Just like an AMP "line up" kinda. But the girls and guys can first warm up to each other with a dance. Or maybe instead of FS, a guy just wants an all nude dance in private, roaming allowed, maybe a HE or a sensual BJ?
If they get all wound up they go for the complete FS. Payment can be in respect to time or services rendered or both.
Though legally they would be for time (or songs). What happens in private is the girls business.
In other words, making what happens in places like some clubs in town actually like being in an AMP, but with a twist. I suspect this kinda place would make good money, provided good looking chicks that enjoy stripping show up. Like DangerBoy said, nothing beats flesh on flesh and a real face to face meet.
I'm getting bored with hundred of asian girls at dozens of AMPs here in town. Yes, I know, a rare few are spectacular girls. Some are just fine, most are forgettable as soon as I leave. 2) Wars are bad for business. Desert Shield / Desert Storm certainly had a part in the decline of clubs, as it took a lot of military customers away from Hawaii, but this was temporary. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were even worse for SC business, since they lasted much longer and took away much more of the Hawaii-based military.
3) The economy crashing in 2008 certainly was bad for business. Before the economy crashed, I seldom saw a slow night at Femme Nu and it was nearly impossible to find parking in their lot. But, even a powerhouse club like FN took a serious hit when customers simply didn't have disposable income to spend anymore. Sure, guys want to drink beer and look at naked girls, but they are less likely to go to a strip club if they're afraid that they might not have a job in a couple of weeks. Lack of money and economic uncertainty certainly hurt clubs. Big companies were either closing or severely cutting their staff.
4) Anti-sex politics became the norm. With the rise of people like Andy Mirikitani, strip clubs became the favored target of government crackdowns. Laws were passed against lap dances and guys who went to clubs were being painted as deranged perverts. Strippers were painted as all being sex trafficking victims, drug addicts or worse. This was certainly different from the Stripper Chic of the late 80's when bands like Motley Crue and GnR put strippers in their videos and Hollywood stars publicly dated porn actresses. Add to that the revelations of Mainland pimps' involvement in running at least two clubs in town and the government crackdowns intensified.
I seriously doubt if AMPs played any role in the decline of strip clubs. It kind of sounds like the strip clubs / whorehouses in Tijuana, except for the BYOB and private club aspect. There's usually a strip club attached to an hour motel. The girls dance, hustle for drink and then they try to get you to go next door with them.
At this point you're talking about something on a scale that hasn't really been done here. AMPs are pretty small operations and it would be hard to hide a strip club, even one that's BYOB.
That being said, what gets me is how many gaming rooms operate without any sort of police action. They're not hard to spot and they seem to be everywhere these days. But I guess an AMP with a mamasans and a couple of girls is an easier target for the HPD than a gaming room with security that's probably strapped.

That's a good point. The girls at FN tell me they have to meet a drink quota every night. I never remembered hearing about a drink quota at FN back in the '90's (I think Rock Za had one though). In fact, I remember a girl I was hanging out with telling a waiter to stop coming around and hitting us up for drinks back then.
Rose was just a fun place. Girls were chill, Rose just seemed to let the place run itself and the staff was cool (though to be fair, a couple of guys I went to high school with worked there). As for the music — at least around '95 at least there was a mix of grunge (Stone Temple Pilots, and I remember Candle Box being popular for some reason), Industrial (Nine Inch Nail's Closer), guitar rock (The Cult — take your pick of song) and hard rock (GnR, Motley Crue) with that gangsta rap. You and the rest of us. But that, too, is why I kinda stopped going. On any given night, there are no good looking young girls that know how to entertain by dancing. It's simple. Sometimes, first at Side Street, Home Bar, etc. And then take the excitement to the next level and hit a couple strip bars in town. Sometimes hang out closer to home and do a combo strip club / drinks / food deal at Blossom. I just like to out and have fun, not looking to hook up with some dancers (even though I have). I think of it as an oasis from the day to day grind of life: some good music, strong drinks, naked women, lively conversation and decent food sounds great in my book.
To piggy back on what someone said earlier, there is just more opportunity for women out there than there was 20-30 years ago. I'm not just talking careers where education is required but even within that adult entertainer / model industry. There are more platforms such as social media where these women can express themselves and still earn good money. Private live shows as mentioned has picked up over the years. Maybe the stigma associated with stripping rather than and entertainer / model weighs on a girls conscious. But to me they're all taking their clothes off for money one way or the other. So I'm probably better off staying home browsing these different outlets than going to a SC and spending money on these wrecked dancers just wiggling around for money.

They're moving to a new location, but they'll also keep their current location on Atkinson running. Their shop on Atkinson is part of the lot that's slated for that condo redevelopment. They got the word they'll need to vacate the space on Atkinson by May.
I would suspect Femme Nu would need to be out of that space around the same time. But like we've discussed, it hasn't been the same in a long time. I will say that I miss being in that place in '90's, when the girls were as nasty as they wanted to be, and I'd be there smoking a cigar (yes kids, you used to be able to smoke in bars, including cigars, and it was awesome) and tipping the girls like pussy was going out of style. Yuni's not a touchy-feely kind of person, so I'd suspect one day in May the doors will be closed, the neon lights would be off and that would be that. No warning. No send off party.
Jazz Minds is where The Wild Horse Showroom used to be. Had a lot of fun with those girls that used to come in from San Fran and the porn stars that would feature. Aaxtion Video, the big, empty storefront next door, will always be that seedy, dirty X-rated video bookstore with the arcade and live shows in back that reeked of stale cigarette smoke, bleach and cum all bathed under nauseating crimson lights. But it was the best place to play Street Fighter II. I thought about taking a job as a night manager and working on some writing about the experience, like that book Hunter S. Thompson never got around to writing about the O'Farrell Theatre in San Francisco, but I always figured I'd wind up being the guy having to clean out the private show and arcade booths.
I didn't realize how much time I spent in that small area of Kapiolani Boulevard until now. Good memories, all of them.

To piggy back on what someone said earlier, there is just more opportunity for women out there than there was 20-30 years ago. They built out that whole back portion of the outer wing facing Kona Street. There is a high rise already going up called Kapiolani Residences, its supposed to be 'affordable housing'. Most people mistakenly thought that property would also take over Femme Nu back then. There are no demolition plans or building plans in place for that lot to present. By comparison the YMCA is to be supplanted by 'Aloha Kai', another supposed affordable high-rise. And the YMCA will stand until at least 2018 now, and it might not happen at all. Considering that its unlikely anything will get planned or approved (let alone closed or demolished) before the turn of the next decade.
