If one goes with more expectations than a good hike up the stairs and hopefully enjoyable weather, one is surely setting themselves up for disappointment. Yes, BB can be hit or miss with the views or the action, but it can also be hit or miss with who you run into there too.

I think more locals have checked out BB than you think, but you do have occasional conversations with people who mention it here and there. Back in the day, there used to be full moon parties. They got wilder and wilder and were eventually shut down. You also have a long drive to Orange County, have to PAY to get into the state park. Then you have to drive south a long way all the way to Camp Pendleton. See it is illegal to be nude on that state beach, and it's posted, so you have to hike into the Marine base and technically out of the state park.

The life guards patrol in a Truck which you can see coming from along way off. So you have plenty of warning. You can also stay until sunset when the life guards are gone. Fun things happen at dusk. First, the sand is covered in rocks, second, you have to go past a fence that says you are committing a federal crime by going past it. I looked over the fence and it seemed to be some low key gay guys and one or two women that I didn't find attractive. I actually enjoyed my walk in another section of the beach a whole lot more.

The path down requires your attention, and I suggest good shoes, not flip flops. You have to hike back up that path at the end of your visit, so don't carry down too much junk. Don't be crazy and try to get a heavy cooler down there. If you do, you'll regret it.

Once you reach the beach, turn to the right. From the path down to the Volley Ball courts are where most beach goers congregate. The volley ball crowd are mostly naturalists so don't do anything rude or lewd near them, they will likely address it with you.

If you want more privacy or intend to be naughty keep walking well past the volley ball courts and find your spot. The beach is a state park so nudity is "permitted" but many people will walk, hike or run by or enjoy the beach fully clothed. Expect to see a lot more men than women. Expect to see older couples more so than younger couples. There are some college age beach goers, but I'd sure like to see more.

Naughty behavior and alcohol are not permitted, so if you do either be discrete. Watch out for the patrolling life guards who are there to stop such activities.

Expect a good hike and fresh air, nothing more and nothing less and you won't be disappointed.
