I strongly suggest you do NOT use Chrome. It sends EVERYTHING back to Google. Private mode or not. If you have to use it, consider Chromium which does not link to Google. Firefox is what is embedded in TOR and is safer with the right add-ins. An even better option (other than TOR) is Opera which has a built in VPN. Always use private mode (unnecessary in TOR since it doesn't save anything).
Do a search for "secure browser" for other options. When you do that search, do NOT use Google. Use DuckDuckGo (ddg. Gg) which is also the default inside TOR.

In general I'm able to pay cash (often less than $100) at lower end hotels and usually on demand and at most any time but the issue is many of these places don't have great reviews and are a bit "sketchy" so the ladies don't want to meet there, most others require at least a credit card for incidentals even if you pay cash. I've found some luck in the $100 to $130 range with places that are either not in favor or doing some sort of renovation, they often don't have a ton of business so they have clean rooms available and are decent enough places to make the ladies feel safe.

Only need room for a few hours and I'll pay cash flat fee, any tips appreciated.There arent that many listed, and they are mostly by the airport, but you can rent rooms for the day from a few websites. dayuse.com and hotelsbyday.com are two that I know of. You can even reserve rooms without a credit card.
Outside of that, a lot of lower end hotels will let you check in early if they have rooms. I usually check prices online, find a cheap one, and give them a call. If they have plenty of rooms, checking in around 12-2 is usually pretty easy.

I use Booking.com and book a mid level property (Country Inn or Wyndham) with a checkin of like 10:00 AM and free cancellation til 4:00 PM that day. In case I have to cancel last minute. I've become a regular at a couple of properties. Sometimes they'll tell me there aren't any rooms available. Tell them you'll take any type of room, and usually they'll find something. Usually works for me. I did have one first time property say they had a hard checkin of 3:00. They wouldn't budge. So I had to walk away and cancel that one.
Best alternative I've found so far. And it usually works for me. I'm sure open to other alternatives. Stay safe!

Thanks DL.Just use your debit card where you have to use a pin number. Now before you do this, make sure you don't get a monthly statement in the mail from your bank. If you do, see if there is a way where you can get a monthly statement only through email. I did this through Suntrust. Ask yourself this though. If this becomes a habit for you where you are fucking around behind the wife's back, what makes you think she won't one day do something of her own where she calls a P. I. Or something that takes pictures of you where you are when you are not home. It could end up real bad for you if your wife did that or even be humiliated at some place where everybody knows you. Thanks DL.I think you have already identified this but the hotel will post a hold against your card for incidentals. It probably varies a bit from one chain to another but every place I have done this worked. I used my regular card (not even a prepaid) and then paid cash at checkout. Nothing ever hits my CC statement (or online activity).
This may be a bit more work but you could always get a different credit card through another bank / institution. Set up the billing address at the office. Get a protonmail email account and have electronic billing enabled. Everything is invisible this way except the occasional bulk email to the office. If you ever change jobs it won't matter since your billing is electronic. Final tip is to get one that allows you to pay it off in cash at the branch. Some banks will allow this.

Hotels handle incidentals holds like a rental car company does at check-in. They run an authorization but do not charge. I have never had an incidental hold show up as a charge and then credit on my bank statement. I stay at national chains (choice, Hilton, marriot, IHG). I can't speak to motels or mom and pop chains but the larger chains do not charge your card and then reverse it. IMO that would make little sense. Think of all the guests at these chains on a monthly basis and then now think of the month end accounting nightmare that would ensue if they charge someone on Monday for unaccrued incidentals and then reverse it when they check out on Friday for instance. Think of that audit trail after 2-3 thousand guests. I think the clerk you were talking with was misinformed. Call about 10 or so chains and ask them the process and how incidentals are handled. My thought here is the clerk you spoke with is just misinformed.

I am the original poster of the hotels.com trick. Check my history for full details. Hotels handle incidentals holds like a rental car company does at check-in. They run an authorization but do not charge. I have never had an incidental hold show up as a charge and then credit on my bank statement. I stay at national chains (choice, Hilton, marriot, IHG). I can't speak to motels or mom and pop chains but the larger chains do not charge your card and then reverse it. IMO that would make little sense. Think of all the guests at these chains on a monthly basis and then now think of the month end accounting nightmare that would ensue if they charge someone on Monday for unaccrued incidentals and then reverse it when they check out on Friday for instance. Think of that audit trail after 2-3 thousand guests. I think the clerk you were talking with was misinformed. Call about 10 or so chains and ask them the process and how incidentals are handled. Sharing this success story as we have some guys here searching for the winning SA formula (sharing the story. Not the girls).
