So, where are the other 3 million or so deaths attributed to COVID, if the death toll is 3. 9 million? Shouldn't we have seen about 4 million additional deaths this year, in addition to the average increase of about 1 million? As you can see, COVID did not "devastate" anything besides the global economy. It's not like the deaths in 2019 were 58 m and the deaths in 2020 were 65-70-100 m. The problem with looking at it through this lens is that you're not accounting for how changes in behavior due to covid likely reduced deaths in other ways. For example our influenza deaths in 2020 were way down compared to other years because of distancing and masking. We had less car accidents than other years because less people were on the road. So just because the change in total number of deaths didn't correspond 1:1 with the number of people who died from covid, that's because it was likely offset by changes in behavior that saved lives in other ways. There are plenty of countries who didn't do much to shut down their economies. It's a global economy. This was a global pandemic. Any disruptions in the supply chain in any of the countries were going to disrupt the global economy.The problem with looking at it through this lens is that we don't even know how many people actually died from COVID, whereas we DO know how many people died in 2020 compared to other years. If I'm 75 years old, living in a care home, and I die with COVID present in my body, did COVID really kill me? Maybe it did. Maybe it didn't. Maybe I live to 95. Maybe I would have died a day later from a stroke or something completely unaffiliated with a COVID infection. Considering the fact that the elderly population comprises a large bloc of COVID deaths, it goes to show that COVID death reporting is already suspect as so many things could have killed them in that year. My grandfather was a fully-functional 80 year-old man. He fell, basically turned into a 'vegetable', and died within 6 months. This was before COVID, but if he had it, was it truly a COVID death?
Secondly, for the same reason you can speculate on the number of lives "saved" through COVID countermeasures, I can say those countermeasures also killed people. Like admin2 says, poverty will kill, but that's not all. Cuomo literally caused 1,000's of COVID deaths by turning care-homes into death camps. Doctors who didn't know what they were doing were killing people by putting them on ventilators. Others committed suicide when they discovered they had a COVID infection. Poor testing procedures killed patients who may have been turned away from a hospital for capacity restrictions. Others may have died waiting for treatment and were not properly triaged. Rich people may have received priority over the poor, causing cases to artificially rise in high-density, low-income areas.
You see, once we get on this 'train', the divergent possibilities are endless. It's better to just look at the plain death numbers to see if the response was appropriate. It was not. For me to believe what you are saying, you must illustrate how 4 million non-COVID lives were saved through the various COVID responses. Basically, show me how heart disease, cancer, 'accidents', non-COVID chronic respiratory diseases, stroke, poverty, etc. (the leading causes of death) were all 'solved' for with COVID responses and reduced to near zero , as these cause around 80-90% of all deaths worldwide. Then, and only then, we can look at how significant COVID killing an additional 4 million people is, that would otherwise not have died in 2020 from something else. It is true, we may have possibly saved a few million lives with stay-at-home orders for the reasons you have listed, but as I've already pointed out, they do not comprise a statistically significant amount of lives when compared to annual death toll, the presence of COVID, and the fallout of what is a massive overreaction.

Even in America, getting people in poverty to eat healthy is a difficult challenge in itself. Public health experts have tried injecting healthy, cost-efficient options, but they are not accepted in most cases. I wish it were as simple as being able to "grow enough food". There are a lot of barriers and that is an understatement.

The paperwork with the COVID shot that I got said that it should provide protection for around 17 out of 20 people. So around 85% are most likely protected after getting the shots. 15% of us after getting the shot may get COVID-19 but have a good chance of just getting milder symptoms.
Everything in life has a risk. And somethings can't be avoided so take what risks you like but the government doesn't owe you anything in return even after you pay your taxes.
Do I take risks? Yes I do every time I get in my car to go see a provider or cross the street. Somethings I try to mitigate by wearing a seatbelt or getting vaccinated against COVID-19 and hepatitis B. Some risks I am prepared to take like having a session with Yuna at Happiness. Since the vast majority of new hospitalizations have been with unvaccinated individuals, it would seem logical to promote vaccinations and better hygiene among the unvaccinated in order to prevent the overload of healthcare faciities. While the govt should bear some blame for being not anticiparing the stubbornness of some people and thus resulting in an overwhelmed healthcare system, people should take some preventative measures to protect themselves as well imo. Perhaps if they did so the overwhelmed state of hospitals would not have happened to the extent that it has.

In terms of masks, the mask people are wearing will not stop a virus. Period. I'm an operating room nurse and wear them everyday. The most common way people get sick and transfer germs and viruses is hand to face. Covid is NOT an air born virus. Staying a few feet away so someone that is caring this virus won't sneeze on you is a good thing. The mask is primarily for sick people so they don't sneeze on you but mostly to make people "feel" safer. Which can be a good thing. You could also be asymptomatic and not know you have covid, So that's why people "push" the mask narrative. It's the washing hands and using sanitizer has dropped the regular flu and virus tremendously. I only wear a mask when I have to in a store or business that mandates it. I would never wear a mask in public, I laugh at these people jogging with a mask, just shows how much misinformation is out, like covid is flying around, Not. Someone would have to sneeze in your face or you touch something that they touched and then you touched your face. Keep sanitisers on you and when your out and about and touch doors, escalators, just clean your hands. You will be all good. Keep in mind You can still get covid and transfer covid even if you have shots. The shot gives you some protections, so you won't get "as" sick. Just like a flu shot would.

The name of the game is reducing the odds. No one precaution is 100%, but together, they could come close. Vaccine, hand washing, masks, social distancing. If we all were to do as many of these things with no excuses, we would be doing pretty good right now instead of watching the state order more emergency medical oxygen and morgue trailers. This is an opinion that I've borrowed from those smarter than me, and it makes more sense than some guy on reddit.

I don't care if people get the vaccine or not, but if people don't and life isn't as easy for those people due to restrictions, then that is how it is.
