70 k with no children, mortgage, student debt, or any sort of debt. That's not that bad for a 20 something IMO. Especially considering I will be at 6 figures within 3 yrs, and I live below my means. Here's what I see, looking at this are&are subforum, social media, the media in general: two very polarized camps, publicly at odds with one another, while a very tiny silent group of people chuckle, high-five one another, take a drag on their cigars, and rake in ALL the chips.
Example - And forgive me for choosing names, it's just random, and to illustrate a point. - take Techsticles and Aaron Hamlet. It's hard to find to folks more at one another's throats, at least here in the are&are. Yet. And I may be mistaken, though I don't think I am. If they were actually present in the same room, like they're at a coffee, or happen to chat while in line at Hattie B's. Would probably basically get along. A couple of guys, both American, both living in Atlanta, and with at least some overlap in hobbies. Maybe they're both golfers, drive late-model cars, own houses.
The truth is, ideologically, these two men are probably basically pretty similar. They both think folks should be healthy. They want cities and communities to function and prosper. They want to catch bad guys if they're out there, and protect kids. They'd both help an old lady take her groceries out to the car.
And YET, through the power of content management, "they" (I'll go ahead and use conspiratorial quotes) have managed to drive an absolute ideological wedge between the two. What's up with that?

As older men, are you concerned about the future of healthcare??The US is one of the few countries in the world without some sort of national healthcare system, which is baffling if not disgraceful. That being said, many of the national systems are not working as envisioned.
My British mother-in-law needed a new hip. The waiting time under the national system was over six months, so she used private insurance to get it done. It seems that for anything more than a case of the sniffles, she uses her private insurance, which begs the question of why she has to pay for two systems in order to get healthcare.
I truly believe that a national healthcare system is essential to the future of this country. The problem is that no-one, including me, has any realistic plan to implement one that is effective, obtainable, and affordable. Full, complete, and timely systems are prohibitively expensive while cheap systems result in poorer healthcare and longer waits for service for everyone.
John Ossoff does not have the answer. Unfortunately, neither does anyone else.

That's been a gradual thing thing ever since the war on drugs was formalized in 1980. You are missing a point. That pneumonia and Covid pneumonia are not the same. Pneumonia itself will not kill the nurses, doctors, visitors, and anyone else that gets near the patient, and spread. Covid will. So it requires a lot of extra PPE and whatnot to keep the infection from getting out of control. If you have watched TV then you've seen all of the special protocols and precautions they take with Covid patients. So it makes sense that the cost to treat Covid pneumonia is higher that "just pneumonia". It's not just to "jack up the prices".

We have seen reports of people recovering from Covid and they say their bills from intensive care, ventilators, for multiple months, are up to $500,000. That's for extreme cases. So for expediencies' sake lets say the $39 k costs real dollars $200 k, the $13 k level costs $100 K, and the $5 k level really costs $25 k.

Those are bills that people without healthcare go home with. If you get sick and get Covid pneumonia without insurance and you're in the hospital for a couple weeks, could you pay a bill in the $100 k range? Could your elderly parents or grandparents? And when the patient can't pay, the hospital has to write off the cost. How much are hospitals going to lose before this Covid epidemic is over in our country? What do we do when hospitals become insolvent and can't pay their staff, their utilities, pay for supplies? The cost is not just lives.
So on top of that. Of the 749 k infected people (or lower, if more people are actually requiring hospitalization) have the virus. Did they get off scot free? I don't think so. If you are lucky, you don't feel like shit for a few days, or weeks. If you are lucky you don't worry about infecting the others in your household, or worry that they are infected too. And the long term health impacts are still coming to light.
If you are diagnosed as positive you are supposed to quarantine for 14 (or so) days. So you lose a couple of weeks pay, at least. The 8. 32 million people (at a minimum) lost two weeks work (80 hours) times the new minimum wage (again, going to the low end) of $15 is $9. 98 Billion That is just a low estimate lost wages. Again, some people don't quarantine, some work from home, some too sick time or vacation, and some lost a lot more that two weeks. But 10 billion dollars is lost income, at a minimum, money that people don't have for bills, or food, and that is not going back into the economy. And taxes on that 10 billion, not going back to states or the fed.
Going back to the 224 K that have died. Yes, some of you said that they had co-morbidities, they were fat, had cancer, diabetes, lung or heart disease. That is true. But they were LIVING WITH THOSE CO-MORBIDITIES. They were ALIVE. They did not have to die this year. They could have lived for years, decades. But if Covid was "no more deadly than the flu" then why has the need for PPE and ventilators skyrocketed since March? Why is everyone treating this virus like it requires more protections and vigilance? Evidence showed the driver had no alcohol in his system and was cleared of the DUI part of the charge. The student exchange program was a result of WWI and WWII as cultural exchange with intent the best and brightest from other countries would come here, get a taste of democracy, and go back to lead their country into prosperity. The J-1 program started by JFK was particularly targeted for this goal during the cold war. That program has devolved into a ticket to the USA. That said, kudos to you coming here legally, you literally won the lottery. Most of us have no issue with legal immigration. Take care of an elderly parent (or look at what is (not) available to veterans) and see the fraud in our system of social services pillaging the social services by illegal (and legal) citizens and see what is left for those most in need who have spent their adult lives paying into the system.
