Probably right about lap dances, getting forgetful in my old age. What was name of the place on Sheridan St (in the 90's) that had shower show, and you could take pictures on Sundays? I always wondered what the photo techcians used to think when I dropped off my film for development. Of course who can forget Stoplight Lounge with the famous Charlotte doing her tricks.

As far as I recall, the first lap dances in Hawaii started in 1992 at Wild Horse.

Those were the days. I remember the girls used to circulate throughout the club giving sample dances during a certain song to try andsell full dances. Also had small clubs (like Ballerinas) behind Stargazer and Club Rose. Awesome lap dances. Club behind Stargazers was called lollipops also I think. Had private curtains, lots of young girls. Found out later, some were 16,17. Moondance where Melody is now was one of the best known clubs. Opened at noon, lots of young hot girls with great action in private booths. Don't forget centerfolds. Lots of girls got their stay there, including Sway.

I read somewhere that lap dances originated in the Bay Area, specifically in the Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theater in San Francisco (might have been Bottom Feeders, the true crime novel about one of the two brothers that owned the O'Farrell killing the other the movie Rated X was based on another book about the Mitchell brothers). The owner of The Wild Horse (where Jazz Minds is now), had competing clubs in San Francisco and brought the concept here when he opened The Wild Horse maybe in the late '80's, definitely in the '90's.

Lollipop was my favorite club between '78 and '85. It was topless only but had $3.00 table dances (no lap dances back then). They had free table dances when their theme song came on ("Lollipop"). Wednesday night was Amateur night, Monday night was wet t shirt contest. Sometimes they had wet lingerie contests. They had some hotties there. Some locals, some Asians, a few blacks now and then, but mostly white girls. College girls, military wives, women who came to Hawaii on vacation and decided to stay, etc. They were right at the entrance to Waikiki on Kalakaua between Saratoga and Beachwalk. There was a Denny's next door. Lollipop had a big marquee sign, like theatres, advertising the amateur nights etc ($100 first prize). I think they were open from the 60's until 1990. I hadn't gone in the late 80's but I remember reading in the news that they were closing and it saddened me. I was living on the Big Island at that time and wasn't able to make one last visit for old times.

I remember Lynn Lemay as a porn star. I didn't remember her from Lollipop but I'm not surprised she started there. As you mentioned, there were other porn stars who were either from Hawaii or got their start in Hawaii dancing. Some went the other way and actually retired from porn and then danced in Hawaii. I remember Tish Ambrose at Butterfly Lounge on Keaamoku. Not a huge name in 80's porn but she was in a lot of movies and was dancing in Hawaii as a regular dancer. (Not a feature entertainer or anything).

She was recently interviewed in The Rialto Report, a podcast that discusses older, Golden Age-era porn. She would have probably danced around the mid-'80's, and talks about starting out at Lollipop. (Any old timers remember that place? Definitely before my time.) She also talks about dancing at other clubs on Oahu she didn't name, but said they were the big clubs at the time.

Interesting to think that Lynn LeMay has a connection here. That puts her in the company of Chanel Preston (who used to dance at Femme Nu).

Thanks for the heads up DB. Do you know if she plays? Joe was cool. Rest his soul. Talking about Yuni, she is a crazy biach. She blows up with the girls, bouncers, and customers on the floor. These I witnessed firsthand. I guess at a joint like this, customer service and professionalism are not a priority. No wonder RockZa is doing so much better. You don't see the owner (s) go batshit crazy like this there.

About a year ago, I saw Yuni and her DJ yelling at each other. This was during business hours. Wasn't much of a crowd in the club, but we all watched what was going on. Her BF or husband, the guy who hangs around with the unlit cigar (I think he's an ex-cop), jumped in after the fact and told one of the bouncers he should have done his job to back her up, but he (the bouncer) just shrugged.

I can't imagine that happening 10 years ago. But I think it does show how everyone in that place is done with Yuni and they all think she's crazy. But then again, she did leave the club to her kid, who apparently completely fucked it up and she had to come back.
