YMMV on this technique. I am a very large guy, so that has probably been a deterrent over the years if there have been any lurkers in the rooms. For another guy it may not work as well. Also if there are gift cards in there in the scenario you described and they have the "visa" or "mastercard" on them, it looks like a regular credit card so that is beneficial.
