"Santa Ana received more than 20 applications to open massage parlors last month – and the city isn't taking any chances.

After a state and federal sweep of nearby massage and acupuncture parlors suspected of cloaking a prostitution ring, Santa Ana will consider putting a temporary ban on new massage businesses.

Assistant City Manager Catherine Standiford said the city received seven applications for massage-related businesses last year and more than 20 in April alone. That prompted city staff members to ask for a 45-day ban on the parlors – which will be considered by the City Council today – to look at drafting new rules for these businesses, she said.

The spate of applications in Santa Ana follow a crackdown in March on massage and acupuncture parlors in Anaheim, Tustin and Orange after a three-year investigation by the Orange and Anaheim police departments, the District Attorney's Office and agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Santa Ana's City Council meets at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza."

It'll be interesting to see what kind of fallout this has.

Just a short report on my visit to the Accu place behind Farmerboy's last Friday.
