I went there multiple times in the past months. The Mexican border guards never asked me why I went to TJ. They did take away my 6-month visa last time a couple of weeks ago, after I used it to enter TJ for more than a year. So had to get in line to get a day pass. It is free and no questions asked. They do check temperature each time though. So don't go if you have a high temperature.

The 6-month visa is about $30. Then you can go through the Mexican lane without stopping for 6 month. I heard that you will also need it if you plan to go to other Mexico citys from TJ. That is what I plan to get next time so I don't need to wait in the foreigner's lane for another 6 months (or longer if they don't take it away after 6 months hahaha).
