Trump politicized this pandemic. He claimed it was a Democratic hoax and belittled the recommended guidelines of the experts. He primed his cult of followers to actively oppose doing what needs to be done to fight this. Instead of bringing the country together to fight this as a team, he pitted conspiracy against science. We're living with the results of that, and unfortunately many people are dying because of that.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a health crisis that has caused an economic problem that is now causing political problems for Trump and the GOP. Now deal with that!

You keep saying its all president Trumps fault, yet you provide no example of anything he could have done different that would have kept the virus from coming here. A2 I don't buy into the mask theory. When this all started we were told that only N95 mask would work. Even the CDC said that masks wouldn't protect anyone. Now fast forward and now a 2 cent paper mask is going to save me. There is evidence pointing out that masks can actually be harmful to the people who wear them. So I wear one when I am forced to being the loveable jerk that I am. I have the required TRUMP2020 mask and a few others. This week's favorite reads. "This Mask is as useless as a Democrat" back to the flat screens and hair weave. I don't have time for protesting and looting. I have a full time job human resources Family and hobbies and finding employees is hard enough without the government giving them more money to stay home then to work. So I leave the looting and burning to the professionals.

We don't agree on the overall usefulness of masks. Though we would agree on their uselessness in huge crowds during protests. We probably do on the reason why the media insists on creating hysteria regarding covid. We certainly would't agree on Trump.

However we both have jobs so I'll get on with mine and leave you to yours.

Eh, the problems is that when one is listening to Scientists they need to understand scientific speak. No mask is going to provide 100% protection against any airborne pathogen. In fact no mask is going to provide 95% protection. So in the scientific community, unless something meets a threshold or 95% effective then one can not say it works! Making such a statement will get you drummed out of the science club pretty fast. So when early on the "experts" warned not to wear a mask it was from this perspective, that because it is not 95% effective, it doesn't work. But that ignores the practical aspect.

But what if wearing a mask reduces your chances of contracting something by 60% or 70%? Is that effective? Would that help stem the tide of the epidemic? I think the recent research shows that the severity of a COVID infection is directly related to how many SARS-COVID-19 particles one inhales. So if a mask reduces the number of particles inhaled, isn't that a benefit? So wearing a mask might not be 95% effective but if it reduces your chances by 70% or means you will have only a minor case, well isn't that useful? It is! But again a scientist can't advise one to use it because it isn't 95% effective. Also governments are loath to advise something unless it is 95% effective as people will follow that advice and still get sick and then blame the advice. It is a messed up situation that brought bad advice to the forefront.

As far as products with safety warnings on them, this is a result of lawyers. If the don't put such a warning then someone is going to use the mask, get infected and then sue the company. Hey, your product didn't protect me! So they warn you it isn't 100% effective. But again, if it reduces your risk, why not?

Oh and now Dr Fauci notes that early on he was afraid there would be a run on and-95 masks by the public and none would be available to healthcare workers, so he advised against using masks! Now he admits that was wrong advice.

Isn't science and politics nice? SIGH!

One can cherry pick scientific reports or websites to suit one's beliefs. There are papers on any side of this debate. Its like wearing a condom while dating hookers. You are free to chose the level of risk you take. Just don't be surprised if you catch something if you avoid protective measures.
