Posts: 650FindPeopleSearch not free any more
With the release of FindPeopleSearch 2. 0, I find I no longer have access to my 10 free background searches a month and will have to pay to continue to use it. So I'm looking out for a new background search tool. It would be nice if it were free but there may not be any more free ones out there. Be interested in finding out if someone has stumbled across a truly free one, or if that can't be had, what are the lowest cost options that still provide good, reliable data?

Posts: 650When you don't have a name for FindPeopleSearch.com
When you don't get a name from zlookup but it shows a real mobile or landline carrier (won't work with voip numbers), you can use FindPeopleSearch still to do background searches. You should be logged in (I have a free account with 10 searches / month). Since you don't have a name yet, just type in a random name. I use ANY BODY. If you know the age (from ad sometimes) you can enter it. Same with the state. These aren't necessary though and I usually don't enter them unless I get lots of matches and need to filter the results. Now click the "Expand Form" button. Enter the phone number in the field provided and click on the search button. Essentially this method allows you to search by phone number instead of by name and can be quite handy. I've only started using this technique so don't know what the hit rate is yet, but so far it's helped when I have no name and just a non-VOIP number.

Posts: 650Converting unknown picture format for Tineye image search
Some providers may be using unsupported picture formats in their ad, either on purpose to keep you from searching for online images or by accident (less likely since Tineye supports the common formats). Here's how to get around that. I did this with an STG ad but it should work on other sites also.
1. Click on the picture in the ad to select it.
2. Right-click on the image and use Save As to save the picture to your hard drive in a place you will remember and a file name you will recognize.
3. Right click on the image again and left click on Search Image with Tineye. (Do not use the "Is this picture real?" link in STG, you must have the Tineye search engine added to your browser.).
4. Once you get the error "Oops, something didn't work!" left click on "uploading it directly" which is highlighted in blue.
5. Browse to the location you stored the image file in step 2 and select the file you named in that step.
6. Click the open button and if there are matches you should see them now.

FYI, they have changed it so if you don't log in you get pushed off to a paid background check site when you search, find a match and try to get background details. If you are logged in, you still have access to the free background checks, up to 10 per month. I don't know if you get the same deal if you sign up now since I signed up a long time ago so perhaps I'm grandfathered in.

With FOSTA, you may notice you no longer have access. But the US data is still there, even if few new reports, if any, are going to be added going forward (hopefully a lot of mongers will start using this site for that). I always use this site first to check for reviews, but the other site is sometimes a good backup when no reports are found here. All you need to access it is a VPN, with the country set to something other than the USA. I am using a paid-for VPN (about $50 a year), but there are free ones out there. I just tried the free one I used to use (Touch VPN), and after setting it to the UK, I have access again. Touch VPN also allows you to turn it off when you don't need it. The free VPNs may not be as fast or have as many features (Touch VPN only seems to have about a dozen or so countries for example) but all you need is a country that is not the states so pretty much any one will work. Some VPNs like Touch VPN work as an extension to a browser so they may only work when you are using that browser. Another option is to use a free proxy, but they are less reliable and usually dirt slow, and the lists of free ones are often out of date so you may have to try a number of them before you find a working one that is reliable enough. There are browser add-ons where you can manually switch the proxy in and out because you may only need it when accessing sites where you need to not reveal your location, and turn it off for full browsing speed.

Sometimes you might want to save pics locally from Instagram (Instagram does not give you the option to save pics) to view later or offline. I tried this one first and it worked so I didn't try any others:
1. Go to http://www.downloadvideosfrom.com/InstagramPhotos.php
2. Enter the Instagram URL in the box, then click "Download Photo".
3. Next click on any of the "Download Photo" buttons next to the photos you want to save. The buttons turn into a link that says "Right click on this link and choose Save As".
4. Right click "Save Link As" and choose the folder you want to save a specific picture to in JPG format.
5. Repeat step 4 for as many photos as you would like to save.
This also works for video and audio files but didn't test this. I'm not associated with this site in any way other than I found it useful.

This add-on has been a nice time saver for me because it allows me to skim the ads without opening them up. You simply mouse your cursor over the title, and the rest of the ad (including pics, if it has any) will show in an adjacent window (it really helps to have a super-wide HD monitor as I do, or possibly a dual monitor). Sometimes to get it synched up I've found you need to scroll to the bottom, then scroll back to the top at which time the script activates and translates all the ads for you. It may not be available for the very latest revision browsers (as with many add-ons as the author has to try to keep up with each browser release), and certain revision browsers may experience bugs. I've used it in Firefox with good success, but it's also available for Chrome. With the quality of BP getting worse, CL has helped to fill some of the void, but of course 99% of the ads are scams so you need something to filter the garbage out and this one is best I've found.

Alright my mighty ass chasers!
Shall we start a new thread for BP alternative sites? I ponder if anyone has an obscure or new one that has popped up.

One trick I've discovered to help finding related providers on BP is to use the keyword search with their social media link (you can just type a portion of it). For example, tonight I discovered these two are likely related by searching "JayDee", which appears in both of their social media links.
