All are higher on the list of factors impacting oil prices than Russia Russia Russia. Right now local gasoline dealers are working thru higher purchase prices from suppliers they locked themselves into months ago.

Fuel prices are not controlled by the oil companies, they are controlled by the commodities market, and any actions by a US President that would affect the present or future flow of oil or the cost of putting that oil on the market are going to affect the commodities market due to the reactionary nature of futures markets. Agreed! When Biden was elected on the premise that his goal was to switch to clean energy, the oil companies that had refineries that were undergoing retrofit and upgrades were put on hold! I think the number is 5 or 6, can't remember. Those refineries are still mothballed! It didn't have a big effect back til lately because of Covid protocols reducing the use of gasoline, but when things started to go full swing the need outpaced production capabilities creating most of the increases in price due to demand. Any economist who avyis an economist working as an economist will tell you that gas prices are determined by GLOBAL supply and demand. "supply", not distribution, because someone who isn't an economist will try to inject the cancelled XL Pipeline into the conversation even though pipelines don't increase supply because that's distribution.

Example. Let's take an oil producing country, like the UAE. They have independent trucial states structured similar to the US. Yet, despite having their own massive oil reserves (more per capita production than the US), their gas prices are also soaring. Can you explain why their gas prices are soaring at a rate that's in line with US prices?

Not only has Biden screwed all of us with his crazy stance on fossil fuels and the resulting high gas prices--and, yes, a lot of it IS his fault--but he's also putting the entire country at risk by depleting the strategic reserves. The word "strategic" is used for a reason--ie, national security in case the military needs it, among other things. And then there's the idiotic ploy the Dems pulled when Trump wanted to "top off" the strategic reserves when the price of oil was low. But, of course, they quashed the idea. How much will it cost us to replace those tens of millions of gallons at today's prices? Fucking idiots!
