I live in this area. It's a wildcard. The thing is, anything can happen. It's not horrible but I wouldn't want to walk through there.

There is nothing stable about it so that's what makes it a bad place to be. You don't know what to expect.

It's not a horrible, horrible place but I wouldn't park my car anywhere near there and I wouldn't walk through it.

This sums it up perfectly. I work near Ricky's. During the day 26th St, right outside of Ricky's, has become a gathering spot for the homeless. Many are older and they are usually very passive, but sometimes fights occur. It's also not uncommon for dealers to post up for an hour or two in their cars at that same area. As an overweight white man pushing 60 it's not an area I would be walking around in alone. The few times I've been there after dark the homeless have for the most part returned to the shelters, but dealers and other hanger ons are more common. I think if you can park fairly close to the door you're probably all right, but I wouldn't park a half block away and walk in.

I grew up in the north suburbs and I learned how to survive being in the "hood". I've lived in Chicago and LA since becoming an adult and have visited some of the toughest areas. Chicago's west and south sides when the shootings and murders were much greater than what is in the news today. I've been in LA's Compton and Watts neighborhoods. I have yet to be afraid in any Milwaukee neighborhood. This is how I approach these places. 1) don't drive a nice car. A BMW is definitely a target. I've had a couple friends lose theirs to carjacking. 2) appear very confident like you've been there before. They can smell fear a block away. And, 3) never go to any of these places to shop for merch. After midnight. A drive through is ok, but a 2nd time will probably make you a mark. I've never have had a problem following these 3 simple rules. I've even rented cars from "Rent-A-Junk" just so I wouldn't stand out. Well maybe being a clean cut white boy driving through a black or ladino neighborhood I did anyway. Best of luck, be confident, and be ready. Now days, a concealed license might be handy. Just be ready to use it.

But also not someplace suburbanites who aren't used to the north side will in any way, shape or form feel comfortable, especially at night. I'd call it the edge of the hood.

Well, I was raised in a fundamentalist Baptist cult so I'm more of a self-righteous, self-centered, narcissistic, prick. But in a nice way. When I got caught in a relationship between a stripper, a bar fly, and my wife they were all text fighting back and forth and everything was exposed. All trying to get me to explain myself and how could I do this, even threatening me. When this was going on I was at the fireworks with a forth girl. I got tired of my phone going off so I sent out a group text to all. "Fuck y'all! I'm dumping all of you cheating wholes. " They all changed their tune with me instantly. Because they wanted to be the one that remains. They are so competitive! A few days later I sent out a group text, "I need a good blow job. Who's down?" Two of them decided to give it their best. Probably 10 years ago and I'm still friends with them both. I never heard from the bar fly again. I never paid any woman for anything back then. Now, I pay them to leave.

My wife and I were living in subsidized housing while I was in school. What passed for a wall between apartments was really a whisper transmission device. Idk how you guys do it, one bad experience is enough for me maybe in another 10 years I'll try again ha! I'll just stick to floor and private dances.

It's always worth it to try because, for the 299 times it doesn't work, the one time it does is worth it. Most of the time, you ask, she says she doesn't do that and you move on.

If you're worried about wasted time, then clubbing probably isn't for you. Even if you get what you want, you're not spending time curing cancer while you're there.
