I would personally recommend regularly changing out your phone so I am not a proponent of getting a huge amount of minutes for multiple months or even a year. Verizon has a prepaid that is $9. 99 at most places and gives you 40 minutes and does not require any on-line registration. That is enough time to set up a handful of dates if needed. I then discard the phone once used up. I just figure (and maybe being overly cautious) that it is not wise to have the same number show up on a whole bunch of providers phones, especially since some of these providers may be involved in other illegal activity that might cause greater scrutiny.

Just insist on using a ProtonMail.com email. No phone number. The. You can even set how long the message is available!

And Cashapp, or anything similar where they're asking for $ in advance, should also be avoided, IMHO. I know some legit providers have started asking for deposits since BP and TER went away. I understand their position but it's your hard-earned $ and there are many options out there with less risk.

These scammers are purposely request stupid shit like that because person who is dumb enough to fall that kind of scam, that's only the start of it. They get you multiple times.

Locate all exits, plan a means of egress, and don't park up front. Don't panic, get out calmly and in one piece.

So I left and obviously the cross dresser that was outside was long gone with my money. So yes I was pissed off. But more so at myself more than anything else. There were so many instances that should've / did give me pause that I completed ignored.

So like I said, lesson learned. As soon as I got back to my room and did my due diligence that had I done before I left it would've saved me alot of time, frustration and money because from a simple reverse image lookup I would've seen that the pics are from some chicks Instagram account. So be aware fellas, and be more diligent than I was about it.

In the days before the internet, a SW would catch your eye, get in the car and (after the LE check) tell you she had a room at a nearby motel. Upon arrival she'd ask for $ up front (all or part of her fee) and say she had to go in first to pay for the room. Once she had the cash, she was gone with the wind. A nice little tactic sometimes used was to offer to let you hang on to something of "value" (purse, identity card, etc.) to show that she could be trusted. Of course, anything handed over would turn out to be stolen, worthless, or both.

A more modern version is the gift-card scam in which you're told to buy a card and then directed to text the card serial number before meeting. Once the scammer has the number they drain the card and go silent.

The variation you described is more old-school, which just goes to show that technology may have advanced but all that's done is give the scammers more tools. And sometimes the older tools work just fine.

The common theme in all of these is simply gaining control of the money before you're ever allowed to meet the (supposed) provider. Once the cash is out of your control, it's over and you've lost. Which means the only protection is to never relinquish anything, not even a dollar, until you're actually in the room and satisfied with the situation.

Of course, that won't protect you from providers who take the $ and then claim it's only for "companionship" or from providers who say the base price is only for a HJ. Only good homework and RTFF will do that. But it should protect you from the full-on scammer.

Yep, whenever I visit a place with asks for cc, I always use a pre-paid gift card. I don't mind the extra charge of the visa gift card so long as my bank account isn't going to be drained. Live and learn and be safe!
