New member here. Lived in Oakland/Berkeley all my life. Some people have asked about the Oakland SW scene, and at this point (having had some 40-50 experiences over the last 15 years with nary a brush with LE--well with one close call) I could consider myself a mid-level veteran. I've never once been to a MP so I will describe only the current SW conditions as best as I can.

There are basically two areas in Oakland/Berkeley of note. International Blvd (formerly E14th) and San Pablo Ave. I haven't done much "business" on E14th because it's further from where I live and work, but from the few experiences I've had there I don't recommend it as much. It's grittier, more violent, more dangerous, more crackwhores, and you have a lot more area to cover, i.e., driving distance in order to make the rounds. Some people have reported that MacArthur near 98th qualifies as a third little island but I've only been successful there once (even though I must say it was one of the better experiences).

So I'm going to focus here on the ins and outs of the SW scene on San Pablo. I divide it into roughly four subsections:

1) Berkeley from Ashby to University Ave. There is zero action north of University, so don't bother going any further north than that. This is my preferred run. There are a couple of reasons for this. Berkeley cops are much more insouciant about enforcement of prostitution laws than Oakland cops, who can be vicious. In fact, many of the SWs I've talked to in fact have um..."arrangements" with the Berkeley cops. Nonetheless, as is the case everywhere you still need to be vigilant for decoys. I've also found that the girls are less likely to have pimps in this part of town, which brings the cost down. The neighborhood is somewhat better in Berkeley than further west, and the attitude of the SWs is usually better. These girls are usually not glamorus and it's sparse and more subtle than in other places, but they are there. Action is mostly at night, peaking between 12-2am, but you can still sometimes find a few girls in the daytime.

2) As we proceed southwest past Ashby, things get a little grittier and the neighborhood less pleasant, but not as bad as the west oakland portion of San Pablo Ave. There is still some action here for a few more blocks, but there's a subtle downscaling of the quality of the girls I've found. When you get to about 47th st you are in an enclave called Emeryville, which is basically devoid of any action, so you'll usually see things dry up for a few blocks along this stretch until you get roughly to MacArthur Blvd. However, if you have a penchant for gambling, Emeryville has a legal card house open 24hrs with a huge bar and hof brau, called the Oaks Club. It's on the right side of San Pablo, just before the intersection of MacArthur. And who knows, you might find some Free action there. It's possible some girls work out of the place but I've only been in there a couple of times so I can't really say. I'm not a bar kinda guy.

4) From here you might take a brief detour from the San Pablo run by making a left turn to explore West MacArthur. This is a short run between San Pablo and perhaps Telegraph, occasionally a few blocks further, but don't go any further than Broadway cause there'll be nothing any further past this point until you get all the way on the other side of oakland, i.e. several miles. W. MacArthur has a long string of seedy but reasonably comfortable motels which are kind of a throwback to the 1970s when there were about a thousand SW per square inch along the street. It's cooled considerably since then, but if you don't have your own place nearby and don't want to "car date"or walk into her likely "home" (a filthy flop house that needs to be condemned and is filled with the girl's kids, crack-addicted brother, and his assorted friends sprawled all over the floor--believe me I've been there, done that my share of times), then it's likely you'll end up in one of these motels as many of the girls on this street (and on San Pablo too) will rent rooms here. If you do, just park in the Motel Lot and get as quickly from your car to the room as possible. Trust me, this particular stretch W. MacArthur is NOT a place you want to be wandering around at night on foot. Frankly I get nervous there even in the daytime.

If you go back to San Pablo and continue toward West Oakland it gets pretty grim and gets worse really right up to the end of where the action is at the intersection of West Grand. You will see some real drug addicted, alcoholic skanks and street bums here, stumbling around. However, Interestingly there's a little triangle from 31st to 34th street where, despite the grim surroundings, arguably the best looking girls of the lot can sometimes be found. This is where you'll most likely find the best looking, youngest, seductively dressed girls. They also tend to be, if not barracudas, at least rushed, pimped, expensive, and impose the most restrictions on what they'll let you do. There was, a few years ago, an absolute 10 blonde that I found here--just a drooler, and highly unusual. You really won't find 10s in any of these places, and should consider yourself lucky to get an 8. The reality is that the range you can expect normally in this area ranges from 1-8 But ironically with this beautiful girl it was the worst sex I've ever had. I'm a pretty good looking guy, but there was so much "I don't do this, I don't do that, roll her eyes hurry up" crap that it was like trying to have sex with a fully clothed mannekin. This is a word to the wise. And I can tell you, as far as this area is concened, the trend is almost linear (with a few memorable and lovely exceptions, <sigh>). The better looking and more sexily dressed the girl, the worse and more impersonal and unfulfilling your experience is likely to be. In general, the less good-looking ones are grateful for the business and want to please you, so they will usually give you much more of the GFE, which is more my cup of tea.

A few points to make overall about this scene:

Regardess of where you are in Oakland /Berkeley, it is uniformly about 90% BSW and 10% WSW. Very few LSW and basically no Asian. I always make it a point to never (well, almost never) stop directly on SP or MacArthur because these are major four lane streets and there's just too much traffic. I get paranoid about cops (which has served me well) because you can't see who's behind you (e.g. a cop). I always turn onto a side street and circle around the block and make sure no cars are behind me and LET THE GIRL COME TO ME on the side street. If she walks up to the car and immediately opens the door and gets in, I know I'm ok. If she says "want a date?" through the window, then I get nervous because this could be a cop still. You have to judge on a case-by-case basis. If she's a 7 or below and not well-dressed then it's probably safe.

I've probably made oakland sound like a bad place to be a monger but if you have a car that isn't going to break down, carry a cell phone, and just use some common sense, you really shouldn't have any problems, and you can almost always find a girl--even if possibly not up to your standard, depending on your taste. I recommend having your own place to go. They'll usually be ok with that if it isn't too far. There are some nicer upscale hotels in emeryville if you're traveling which are just a few blocks from San Pablo.

Hey if anyone has any info on Richmond (California, not Virginia), I'd be curious about it. I've heard there are places where you can find SW but I've never seen any.

Yeah, I was suprised, too. Needless to say, it was awesome. The last time I had been there must have been about 6 months or so ago, at the Empire on O'Farrell, a block up from the Hilton downtown. I've been trying to think of her name, but it just wont come to me. She had short hair then, a little on the wild side, like kind or neatly spiked. The key was treating her nice, she really got into that. Then when I went to DATY, she was like putty.

Everytime I head back to the Bay, I always go there to see her, 3-4 times now, and I'm due to go back again soon.

As far as SW action, I have not been in S.F. for about 6 months, so I really can's answer that. I always checked on Geary, and O'Farrell. The one thing I do know, is to stay away from Ellis and Polk. You will see some hot Latinas with huge tits, but the problem is they all have dicks, that's right, trannies, beware.

Sorry I couldn't help more on the SW scene. I'll be there myself, in about 2-3 weeks. I'll have more to post then.

I use to live in Oakland, but moved to Portland about 8 months ago, and from what I remember, there was nothing special about the AMP's in the East Bay (Oakland, Berkley, etc.). San Francisco is just a 12 minute B.A.R.T. ride away, then you'll be in AMP heaven. Go to the S.F. board and check out what is hot now. I believe that the Golden Flower and Kings are two that should be pretty good.

My experience is mostly with The Golden Dragon on Mason Street right off off Ellis, and right across the street is a bar called Red's Corner. If you go to the Golden Dragon, I use to see a very sweet Korean girl, about 23 or so, named HANNAH. She is about 5'1", 95 lbs, and gives a pretty good massage, she'll walk on your back and everything. Then she'll give you a really good unrushed GFE. Everything is covered, including the BJ, but she'll do every position (except GREEK) that you want. If you finish before your hour is up, she'll go again, or just lay and cuddle with you. Judge Pleads No Contest in Prostitution Case

An Alameda County judge pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace, after he was arrested for allegedly soliciting sex from an undercover Oakland police officer, according to the Associated Press.

Superior Court Judge Jack Gifford, 76, who has sat on the bench since 1981, will likely face a separate investigation from a state judicial watchdog agency despite his plea.

A judge convicted of a misdemeanor could receive an advisory letter, a private or public admonishment, or be removed from the bench.

Gifford, who handled cases at Oakland’s Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse, was not required to appear in an Alameda County courtroom Friday for the hearing.

Although prosecutors had originally charged Gifford with one count of soliciting an act of prostitution, Gifford agreed to plead no contest to the lesser charge of disturbing the peace, and will pay a $250 fine.

Gifford was arrested March 3, when he allegedly drove up to female Oakland police officer decoy, and offered to pay $40 for sex.

Gifford was then instructed to park on a dark residential street, where several other officers were waiting to arrest him.

Last week I visited a place called "Hawaiian Massage" in Berkeley. I wasn't sure what "Hawaiian" style massage was, but it was basically Asian in composition.

Even though I'd never been there before, I told the lady at the desk I had (just not for 6-9 months); she seemed to believe me. Alameda Judge Arrested for Soliciting Prostitution

OAKLAND -- Alameda County Superior Court Judge Jackson Gifford was charged with soliciting prostitution on Friday after his arrest in a police sting Wednesday.

Gifford will be arraigned on the misdemeanor charge March 19, court documents say.

According to police reports from the videotaped sting operation, the 76-year-old judge, who presides in the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland, was driving on San Pablo Avenue in his gold Cadillac Northstar on Wednesday evening. He pulled up to a female police decoy standing on the corner of San Pablo and Brockhurst St.

"Do you want a date?" she asked, according to the report.

"Yeah," Gifford replied.

"You got a place to go?"

"Yeah. My house."

"Okay. Where's that?"

"Over by Lake Merritt."

"What do you want? A blow job?" she asked.

"Half and half," the judge said, referring to the street parlance for half oral sex and half regular sex.

The decoy said that it would cost the judge $40 and directed him to meet her at the corner of San Pablo and 33rd Street. That's where authorities arrested Gifford, the police report said.

Gifford could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.

The Oakland jurist was appointed to the municipal court in 1981 by then-Gov. Jerry Brown, and was elevated when the superior and municipal courts unified in 1998. He was in private practice in Oakland from 1959 to 1981, handling criminal and civil cases as a solo practitioner.

Gifford did not hear cases on Friday and will be on vacation until the end of the month, said Assistant Court Executive Officer Joanne Lederman.

Although court documents say Gifford will be arraigned in Dept. 107, the courthouse where he presides, Lederman said it's likely that the hearing will be transferred to another courthouse.

District Attorney Thomas Orloff said that a prosecutor had not been assigned to the case yet. He declined to comment further on the case.

The case is People v. Gifford, 496589.
