Most sex workers don't like the Nordic model, either, since if the encounter is against the law for one the participants, that pushes it just as far out of sight as if the whole thing is illegal. In Germany, there's actual legalization, and it works pretty well. The big tourist brothels are an expensive bummer, but most cities have plenty of mid-size apartment house brothels that have a group of women freelancers using the sex-furnished rooms (bed, mirrors, soft lighting, "erotic" art), with the Johns paying 30 Euros rent and 30 to the girl for 1/2 hour: about $75.00 with no risk of arrest and the possibility to develop a regular client / provider relationship over time. I've seen plenty of East European, Italian, South American, African, Turkish, but also German women working in these small-scale places, under no more compulsion than the cashier at the grocery store across the street (and no less, either), usually with an older madam answering the phone and the door, and the girls hanging out in a back living room smoking and texting between clients. From their perspective I'm sure it's not a great job, though the hours are flexible and the money is relatively good, and it isn't dangerous and they don't have to do anything that they haven't agreed to up front, and they can point to the sign on the wall with the condom requirement if they don't want to bare back someone, etc. It's hard for me to imagine it working here in the US, though, where everyone's so high-strung about sex. But who knows?

Then that isn't true decriminalization. And the Nordic model sucks.
