I do have a carry permit and I do carry much of the time. But I never carry if I am out mongering. If the area is pretty bad or the situation looks dicey, I won't go there and look somewhere else instead. I figure that even though I am carrying legally, if stopped, it just adds to the stress and drama of the situation. I'd rather give up the cash if the situation is bad, and then pass the info on to others.

I also have a carry permit and I carry a weapon every day, usually in my car. I completely agree with you, what's a couple of hundred bucks as opposed to seeing yourself on the 6 o'clock news, if you ever feel that you have to use the damn thing. Also if you are arrested in a sting, god forbid, if charged with promoting and you are armed at the time, I suppose a aggressive da could go for armed in the commission of a felony. And that my friends would certainly fuck up any mongers life. A few hundred or even thousands of bucks and a stolen vehicle pale in comparison to a mountain of legal fees and untold noteriaty from an arrest.

To each his own on the carry thing there is no simple answer, but is is best to think it through before you grab your pice on the way out the door to chase another pice.

The state requirement which changed April 01, 2013. Shoot 50 rounds at a B29 target. 20 rds at 3 yrds. 20 rds at 5 yds, and 10 rds at 7 yds. You must score a minimum of 70 to pass the shooting. You get 2 points for every hit inside the 7 ring and 1 point outside the ring. Any hit outside the color counts as zero. The written test is 42 questions all multiple choice and true and false, very easy. The cost of the class is around $85 and the state application which include the cost of fingerprinting is $115. The permit is good for 4 years and the state will send you an application for renewal 6 months before your expiration date. The cost to renew is $50 which is good for another 4 years.

Also it's worth noting that it is a crime to possess a firearm while intoxicated EVEN if you have a valid carry permit. I don't recall that being covered when I took the class a few years back. I had a friend arrested for DUI with his handgun locked in the glove box, and I got the benefit of education from his misfortune. Your best bet is not to have the gun at all if you're drinking, but if you do, unload it and lock it in the trunk. (The over-zealous LEO will still charge you for possession while intoxicated, but you'll have a better shot at beating the charge.)

I have had a carry permit about 10 years. It cost me 85 dollars for the class 15 for the shooting range for the firing test in which you also have to pass by getting so many inside the target. If I remember correctly it is about 75% of the rounds you shoot. It cost me 115 dollars for the first permit. I had to go to the old Sears building on Central and they take all 10 of your finger prints. They give you a paper that serves as your permit till it comes in the mail. Then it cost 50 dollars to renew it and it's good for 4 years at a time.

In order to obtain a carry permit, you must undergo an 8 hour course with a certified instructor, including passing a firing range test and pass a TBI background check (complete with fingerprinting, etc). The course will run you about $100-150 at most places. There's also a written test, but if you can spell the word "GUN" you can pass it.

There are various fees that go along with applying of course. If I'm not mistaken, the permit is good for 5 years and there's a $150 fee for renewal.

I think you're about right on the starting from scratch version of it.

BUT, if you're a former law officer, you already have an armed security guard license or you served in the military then all you really have to do is show them the paperwork to prove it and then show them the money.

South Florida authorities are asking for the public's help to find a group of "foxy thieves" they say are drugging men they pick up at high-end bars and stealing tens of thousands of dollars in cash, jewelry, guns and other valuables.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office released photos of the four suspects, all in their 20s, and have attained arrest warrants for them.

Investigators suspect there may be more women involved in the ring.

"They're attractive women that go into a bar and they have a scam and they work it again and again," said Dani Moschella, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.

The scam works like this: go to an upscale bar, flirt with a middle-age or older man wearing expensive jewelry, go back to his home, slip a drug in his drink, rob him and leave before he wakes up.

Scott Rosen. 54, told CNN two of the suspects paired up when they worked the scam on him. Rosen said met the two women at YOLO, a popular bar in Fort Lauderdale's business district, and the three left the bar for his house. There, Rosen said, one of the women distracted him while the other made him a drink.

"I got drugged," Rosen said.

The next thing Rosen remembers is waking up to discover over $250, 000 worth of his personal items gone. Handguns, diamonds and a Rolex watch he was wearing. Along with the women.

"It could have been worse," he noted."They could have shot me with my own handgun."

Car is an extension of your home. Concealed carry requires permit. Open carry? Pancho and Lefty on open carry for all the honest world to see. VA law did allow open carry even in bars without permit.

Tennessee has a very vaguely defined law against carrying any weapon with an "intent to go armed."

I don't care if it's your car, if you've already been busted for something else and then a cop finds a gun in your car that you don't have a permit to be carrying then I would pretty much guarantee you're going to jail.

Under Tennessee, if you have a carry permit you don't actually have to have your gun concealed. You can carry it openly.

But even with a carry permit, there are places you can't carry a gun, such as a school or a court building.
