If a person provides "Red Flag" information to LE or a court, the information will require immediate action which will result in temporary confiscation of your firearms. The intention of these laws is noble. Swift confiscation could prevent another mass shooting.

The problems are not often talked about. Consider the many restraining orders currently wrongly granted to a spouse preparing for a custody battle. Think about the pissed off girlfriend that wants revenge for a broken heart. The neighbor that knows about your gun collection and wants revenge because your dog shit in his yard. There is no way to prevent abuse of these new laws.

You could say that the court will return your property, but at what cost. You will need a lawyer. You will need to pay for mental health assessments (what if the shrink is anti gun?) This will likely cost you thousands to earn the return of your property. Many people have family heirlooms and expensive collectible or historic firearms that will be taken. If returned to the owner, will they have been stored properly or returned rusted and damaged. No One bill be held accountable for the loss.

Most gun owners will never misuse a firearm, never! I say that it would be great to prevent a tragedy before it begins. Red Flag laws are not the answer.

Amen brother, this is the danger of surrendering any of our rights, because that road only leads downhill and you'll never get them back.

You won't find any responsible gun owner that says anyone and everyone should own a gun. Most agree that one should be properly trained and extensive background checks are done. Most feel this should be done before the purchase of a firearm. The surface checks they do now really don't dig deep enough into a persons mental state of mind. They tend to look at court records only.

For those who are anti-gun consider this. In countries that prohibit most guns yes you don't see the mass shootings and such but what you get there is suicide bombings and chemical attacks. This kind of mass killings goes on everywhere. They simply use the tools at hand to carry them out. Every country has "Red Flag" people willing to do harm. We live in the USA and our media loves to feed us all the bad news. It gets viewers. Other countries don't feed the news with everything. I traveled extensively in my younger years and saw many bad moments yet most of the time it didn't make national news there. The philosophy is to keep it on the DL so others don't follow. Its still the same over there. Much harder to do with the internet now but they still try.

This one gave out more warning signs than anyone could ever imagine. It is not the gun'e fault that he was allowed to do this. Do not let them strip us of our 2nd amendment rights which not only protects us from harm but also protect us from our government. I do agree with the red flag legislation to a point, but they better make damn sure it is not exploited to disarm a special political group, if you know what I mean. I had this discussion with a co worker. You say the only thing is it is harder and further. Well that my friend is no small thing.

If a person gets shot with a simple handgun once or twice I have seen people survive that. I'm not sure about. 223 or. 556 if you get hit with one of those rounds anywhere and your chance of survival is slim to none. Why do you think some people say the police are outgunned when coming into contact with a ar style rifle carrying suspect. Remember standard body armor can surpress most handgun ammunition (except maybe .357 magnum .50caliber desert eagle or FnP pistol rounds. High velocity. 223 rounds will power thru standard or any armor. Hence title Weapon of War. And I'm not anti gun. I like guns hell I almost and still might purchase an Ar pistol (Google it it is a thing) just a shorter version or ak or M4 also the amount of damage this jerk off was able to do in 30 secs and the cops where literally right there. I have been to Oregon district and when I first heard of shooting I'm like "but how when the cops are all over the place there?" But in that little amount of time look at all the damage he was able to invoke. My last point is there is a reason all mass shooters Use these type of weapon, the most amount of Carnage that can be done in as little time. Simply put.

Respectfully of course, I disagree on the point of them picking an armalite rifle for damage. They buy them because the rifle looks awesome and makes them feel more bad ass. Then they hit a tipping point and use them because they have them. A pipe bomb and ball bearings would inflict the most damage but they already have the rifle. I would also point out that the rifle is no more than sprints and metal and plastic. Focusing on people is how we solve for this.

I'm glad folks are discussing this and educating each other. I agree that this has nothing to do with the gun and everything to do with desensitization and the person. It's not a spoon's fault I'm fat. A spoon is designed to help us eat. How I choose to use the spoon determines the outcome.
