Just as making prostitution criminal only introduces criminality into what should be a simple exchange of service for value so does making drug addiction criminal instead of a treating it for what it is, a public health problem. This attitude has cost the public trillions of wasted tax dollars. Not just the money for incarceration, but law enforcement, interdiction, lost time. It's ridiculous.

Sadly most of you guys don't even know that the very reason you think this way is because you were conditioned to from an early age. A guy named Harry Anslinger created this war on drugs out of nothing. Well nothing but wanting to jail Blacks, Mexican's and Chinese. Before him the few addicts there were could just go to the drug store, buy some opium based product and live a productive life. No cartels, no overcrowded prisons, nothing. Just a couple junkies buying relatively inexpensive drugs at the drug store. In the same breath people will talk about how prohibition was stupid because you can't stop people from doing what they want and then will say that drugs are different. Alcohol is a drug.

Yes, giving clean needles to junkies is a very good idea. As a society we can spend pennies on needles or millions on dying broke aids patients.

We didn't have organized crime, aka the Mafia, until alcohol was made illegal. Religious meddling that pays a heavy cost in the long run. Live and let live!

It's ironic how the city of Dayton can hand out thousands of clean needles to drug users so they can be safe. Following the same logic shouldn't the city be providing shelter for people that want to shag so they can be safe also. Its fucking ridiculous that they're giving addicts needles to shoot up.

Addicts are given CLEAN needles to prevent the spread of HIV / AIDS and Hepatitis, Tetanus and STDs.

They are distributed not to make the quality of life easier and better for the addicts, but to stem the spread of the diseases to the community-at-large.

That's the nature of COMMUNITY health care. It's been a core tactic proven successful at hindering the spread of so much sickness.

I'm sure that this can and will be challenged in court as a breach of privacy as loitering for prostitution isn't a sex offender related "crime". I find it funny that she's putting forth this much effort yet she cannot find a company to move into the city, fix up the dilapidated areas of town, and realize that there are police officers patrolling the east side and and. It would be nice if the ACLU of Ohio would file a legal challenge to Dayton's latest effort of public shaming guys convicted of prostitution.
