It's better to take the loss of the donation than having to wait to replace your phone and driver's license (which has your home address), credit card, etc. The further away from the room you park the better as it makes them less likely to "search" your vehicle. Obviously the closer to the office if it's a motel, the better as they would get nervous. If the car belongs to him then he shouldn't be emptying it clean or trying to find anything of value. And unless they plan on selling the car to a chop shop, they wouldn't risk moving it since that would then be considered unauthorized use of motor vehicle which can be added to the already breaking and entering or forceful entry per some states.
