There just might be an outcry of "police misconduct" that forces the P. C. 's hand. Or, maybe he won't give a damn what anyone says or thinks and just keeps the guy on the job. Again-we don't know how this will turn out until the matter is resolved one way or the other. Until then, it's all speculation.
You're assuming he has the power to just fire someone LOL. There's a long history of APD off duty misconduct not leading to termination because they literally can't. He's protected by the Taylor Law. It has nothing to do with public relations. It's pretty clear this was self defense, he won't be charged with any sort of manslaughter. Misdemeanors and violations won't cut it from an off duty incident out of jurisdiction.

Even Officer Spratt wasn't terminated. He fucked multiple high school girls in his position as the resource officer at Watervliet High School. He even got what was in his pension.

    Doesn't seem so

I have zero doubt he would have busted any of us mongers given a chance so a bit of hypocrisy with accolades.
Check the local Albany papers from Saturday, January 12. I think the Iraq War vet is correct, though.

It's a scandal. Someone has to pay dearly for it happening. And no one is on his side. Losing his job just doesn't seem like enough in my estimation for them to feel like he suffered sufficiently. And the whole story, it seems to me, has yet to come out.

Not going to do jail time for misdemeanor offense, presumably first offense. Hinges on any wrongdoing in the shooting or not. Look at what has gone on in the Schenectady department for years where cops still hang on to jobs after all kinds of things. Agree that damage to his family life and reputation probably his biggest concern.

    His job?

Yes, cops frequent prostitutes all the time but under the radar. This is in the news. If he gets out of trouble he will probably have to be looking for a new LE job down in someplace like Louisiana or Florida. Might not be so particular about these kinds of things down there.

But $3,000 cash is a lot for anyone to pass up, especially in that godforsaken marketplace. How long would he have to do whatever he was doing to get that much money up? Weeks? Months?

I don't think what happened would deter very many people in that situation. I imagine most would be be okay with taking their chances for that kind of pay-off.

If the rule it justifiable I would bet, and hope, he keeps his job.

Most guys if pimp jumps out with a knife anyone here would be smart enuf just give up money and walk away alive. Bummer for the guy that they picked an armed cop as their victim. Hopefully guy just gets suspension and not fired and he a single guy Not getting life ruined. Over the years any number of girls have told me they have regulars in LE and presumably some of them actually telling the truth.
