If Epic's post below yours about "Supreme" doesn't answer your question, I would say trust your gut. Your instinct is on point, the guy is typically the handler / pimp. They are usually in the room with the girl up until the date is about to start, and then during the date they are floating around somewhere "just in case". There are very few coincidences in this game. Maybe if you only saw the guy once, it would be a coincidence, but the consistency should inform you otherwise. I have gotten used to seeing it, and knock on wood I have never had any issues with any of them. They just want their money from the girl, so as long as there are no issues around that I can't imagine that you are going to encounter any problems. In America there is multiple street subcultures and one of these subcultures is men who live off women through pimping. In poor black neighborhoods pimping is kept alive as a viable option to make money opposed to selling drugs or other illegal money generating activities.

In some cities it's actually hard for a female escort / street walker to remain independent because black males will pose as johns and then during the date coerce them into working for them which is why many ads say "No AA" because nearly all the black males who respond to escort ads are pimps looking for new recruits. Independent female working girls are known as renegades and they are constantly targeted by pimps.

White males live off women too, but it's to a much lesser extent hands off approach and they do it for different reasons. Where black males pimp to make money to support a flashy street lifestyle white males take a backseat approach and become a girls qasi boyfriend / handler / chaperone to get access to drugs because it's easier then boosting or committing other more serious crimes to support their drug habit.
