LAWRENCE — Police said they made more than a dozen prostitution-related arrests after a sting along a section of Broadway.
This is the second time in two months that a prostitution sting has brought arrests in the city.
Some 13 arrests were made on prostitution-related charges and two people were arrested on warrants, said police Chief Roy Vasque.
During the operation, detectives focused on a stretch of Broadway between Haverhill and Cross streets where prostitutes are routinely seen working, Vasque said.
Broadway is a "gateway to the city" and Vasque said police often receive complaints about prostitution from business owners and managers in the area.
"It's a quality-of-life issue we are going to continue to address," Vasque said.
Police ran a similar sting in mid-August and arrested 15 people. Many of them have addresses outside the city, police said.
On Tuesday, Detective Thomas Cuddy, the special assistant to the police chief, primarily was used as the undercover officer who approached the suspected prostitutes during the investigation.
More details on the sting and the names of those arrested will appear in Friday's print edition of The Eagle-Tribune and online at eagletribune.com.
