For the John it is a $1000 fine and you get your mug shot splattered in the paper. If found guilty in court you now have a record. All you have to do is do a search of arrests in your city / town of interest. The vast amount of arrests have the fact that a hotel / motel was used to set up LEO's operation. You are on camera from the time you enter to the time you leave and don't think for a minute that LEO and management don't work together.

I have always sworn off hotels due to this concern, although higher end women are almost always in hotels.

I have always believed that store fronts (parlors, spas) or private residences were less likely to be stings, as they require a much longer financial commitment by the.

Gov't. However, I have never believed that store fronts or private residences could never be a sting.

Not entirely sure from the article / further investigation whether this was a hotel, parlor or SW decoy sting? Also not clear what the mechanics of the sting were.

I imagine it was either of the last two given the motivation for the sting was resident complaints, but I might be wrong. I'm reasoning that residents / businesses would only complain about prostitution if it was in their face enough to cause offence. I can't claim to know the area well enough, but I'd imagine it's hard for residents (plural) to sniff out an independent working in a condo or apartment, especially given how short their stays typically are. I could imagine an apartment based or shopfront massage establishment if it was not clandestine enough drawing attention. I'm tempted to go with this option given the mention of business complaints, but would think SW's would be equally obvious, though they tend to operate at night when businesses are closed, so probably unlikely.

If it was the parlor option, I'd be curious to understand just how they set up their decoy. I doubt they'd go to the lengths of creating a false shopfront. Maybe they posted an ad posing as an apartment massage to lure the mongers? My underlying curiosity is to figure out if the right controls on the mongers' parts would have prevented the very public pain of this article turning up when someone googles your name.
