Perfectly thoughts and well said. Not the same Hawaii I grew up with, and a front seat to many locals leaving Hawaii for better opportunities, greener pastures of; professions, home ownership, and their own riches then upon returning realizing these thoughts. They are happy to visit their stomping grounds to then realize also, it is not the same, so why come back? This quote came directly from my own ohanas' voices, shaking their heads in disgust and disappointment at it all. I feel for them as well as our ohana of the past. Why even with our past parties when we playing music, we sing Hawaii 78, because it rings very true! It is sad. Money Talks here in Hawaii too.

If just for a day our king and queen.

Would visit all these islands and saw everything.

How would they feel about the changes of our land.

Could you just imagine if they were around.

And saw highways on their sacred grounds.

How would they feel about this modern city life.

Tears would come from each others eyes.

As they would stop to realize.

That our people are in great great danger now.

    How, would they feel.

Could their smiles be content, then cry.

Cry for the gods, cry for the people.

Cry for the land that was taken away.

And then yet you'll find, Hawai'I.

The local, state and federal legislatures are overwhelmingly men. The executive branch at all levels overwhelmingly men. Ditto for police and prosecutors. I think there's some parity at the state judicial level but I'm not sure if that applies to criminal courts.

This is about money. Prostitutes don't pay taxes. Sex workers in general don't pay for lobbyists and have PACs to give to the re-election coffers of politicians. If someone with money and knows how the political game works wanted prostitution legalized, it would happen. Look at what happened to medical marijuana. It was all about setting up a tax schedule and a system in that cut out regular people from setting up dispensaries, just wealthy individuals or corporations that could meet the state's financial requirement and pay for the right to operate a virtual monopoly. They're working on doing the same for outright marijuana legalization.

Also, keep in mind who paints a transaction between two consenting adults in terms of morality. Men. Namely, the hypocrites who run churches. It's only a matter of time before before all those mega churches that are getting sweetheart leases from the state decide to get more involved in politics and start focusing on ALL adult oriented businesses.

Women may file complaints that get sex workers arrested, but the laws that were put there to begin with by men and men in power are ones that maintain those laws and that paints it as "vice" who want to maintain control over you and the women in the business, until it's convenient for them to make money on it on their terms.

I don't mean all men or even most men are complicit. I'm talking about the few men who have money, power and "moral" authority. Should sound familiar if you know anything about the history in Hawaii. I'm talking about the people in power who are leading most people by the nose by filling them with manufactured, deceptive outrage like three card Monty, while they're selling OxyContin, sexually assaulting their parishioners or cutting deals in back rooms.

Kealoha's are crooks and they earned their time.

However, our AMP scene was really a lot better while he was chief. Had so many options here.

Yep you got that right, people should not trust HPD when the former Chief Louis Kealoha, the wife and drug dealing MD brother all go busted and thrown into Federal detention, just the tip of the iceberg. Corruption goes down the ranks as well. Just follow the money (our tax money) Even COVID-19 funds diverted to unnecessary equipment from former HPD Chief resigned from additional abuses. Made an ass out of HPD by violating jurisdiction on Hawaiian sovereignty grounds during a national nations event with live cameras rolling as HPD barges in flashing lights with sirens to arrest innocent veteran and family. Federal judge threw out the case since HPD had no reason to even be there.

Things get too hot, the massage parlor girls go on vacation somewhere else and the indies, what few there are here, just shut down for awhile. That being said, I do think it was irresponsible of the reporter to not reach out to those groups on the mainland. They've been around for a long time. She seems to have some kind of Christian bent, as she has a pattern of reporting on these kinds of stories.

Good observation. It's "McNews," an easy story for the reporter. Just repeat whatever the police say, with no independent journalistic investigation needed. If the police had said 90 percent, that would have been repeated without independent investigation, or if the police had said 70 percent, that would have been repeated without independent investigation.
