Yeah I remember listening to that on the way to work. I only heard up to the part when he drove to the sushi place and all the valets knew what her gig was. Poor guy, her "company" phone was always blowing up when they were together. Too bad I didn't hear the whole segment.

As far as women coming from other countries, that is an issue that those countries need to address. Women leaving places like the PI or Thailand, then the question is why are the governments of those countries making it so that women have to find work on their back in other countries rather than having options in their own countries.

Not sure you have traveled much, but, places like P. I. , Thailand, China, Vietnam, Korea place a different set of "values" on women and what they do. The USA Is mega hung up on being anti the sex trade business. Perhaps we are #1 in the world when it comes to these "values", don't know for sure. Other countries? Not so much. Add to that the impoverished condition of some of these countries and you soon see why the governments can do little if anything even if they wanted to.

Two recent incidents in Massachusetts show the potential risk for mongers in using Backpage.

In one of the incidents, a customer contacted a 19-year-old woman advertising on Backpage, agreed to a $150 "massage" (wink wink), and went to a respectable hotel (a Marriott) to meet her. However, "things went bad and there was a disagreement and he asked for his money back". In response, the woman reportedly lunged at the customer with a knife. Then "an unknown man" appeared, and he and the woman fled from the hotel. The police were able to find the woman (but not her male companion), and now she's charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, armed assault with intent to rob, and misleading police (by telling a false story).

In another incident, a Backpage customer showed up for a meeting at a shopping mall parking lot. A girlfriend/boyfriend duo entered the customer's car and demanded the "donation". The customer declined, so the girlfriend (in the back seat of the car) then held a knife to the customer's throat. The boyfriend (in the front seat of the car) then "began slashing" at the customer with another knife to try "to get the wallet out of his pants". The customer was stabbed in his hand, leg and neck. The girlfriend grabbed the customer's wallet, removed credit cards, and tossed the wallet back to the customer. The duo then fled. Fortunately, the police were able to catch them from video surveillance footage at the mall and the phone number in the advertisement. They're currently being held without bail on charges of armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and criminal conspiracy.

Personally, I think incidents like this occur more often than reported, because many victims aren't willing to incriminate themselves to the police as prostitution customers, and/or don't want wives, girlfriends, family members, etc., to learn of their secret hobby.

The show was an over the top dramatization, but the public doesn't know that. The group that is supported indicates it wants tougher enforcement on men who hire girls under age 18. There is a clear bait and switch involved with the show. It portrays people under age 16 who are coerced. Most of the actual workers are 16 to 18 and only a tiny fraction are under someone's control.

On a TED talk the founder of this new savior group equates everything, including activities of adults, with slavery. Since no offsetting program with more nuanced information is expected, the effect will likely be negative.

I agree. I don't want to see innocents like underage boys and girls caught up in the trade, and those who prey on them should be stoned as it were. But for the legal age women and adults, what they agree to do with each other shouldn't be made to seem like it is a problem. If one wants to turn to that life to make money, I may not like it but their choice. Do some of these women get manipulated, yes they do and those who do that should face the law, the same as a company that will exploit workers. I saw a PSA about the next Five-0 will deal with human trafficking. I am against forced services and leave the kids alone but the trade between consenting adults should be left alone. I have seen in the past when these things pop up in the media the next thing LEO will be out in force and start to close up the ships and providers making it harder for Lurkers. You think this will happen with the airing of this episode?

Saw in 2/23 newspaper that Kenrock Plaza was sold to build a condo. Looks like Twilight, Sandy's Place, XO Lounge, and Gion will be relocating or clising soon.

It's pretty clear that there are major development changes coming to the area around Ala Moana. The closer the rail development gets to reality the more attractive the area becomes for high end development of all sorts. Expect that much of the area mauka of Ala Moana between Piikoi and Kalakaua will undergo reconstruction over the next 10 - 20 years. All of our favorite haunts are going to have to adapt or die.

Change, in all things, is inevitable. Learn to love it!!
