Recently congress changed the laws about internet sites. Used to be that if you just hosted content, the court ruled that the site host shouldn't be responsible for keeping track of every single thing that users post and making sure it was all legal. Backpage and other sites were just hosts of all content providing a platform for users to post whatever they want. With the recent work by congress, sites are no longer legally immune from illegal activity on their sites posted by users. Sites are responsible for all activity on their sites. This is why craigslist removed the massage ads section.
