Jacksonville, Nassau sheriffs announce 50+ arrested in human trafficking operation.

More than 50 people were arrested from across Northeast Florida as a result of a nationwide human trafficking operation.

Jacksonville Sheriff T. K. Waters and Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper stood beside the FBI and Naval Criminal Investigative Service to announce the arrests locally as part of a national "Operation Cross Country. ".

"It's very real in our community. It is a web of crimes that not only typically hides in plain sight. But also feeds on social disenfranchisement of its victims," Sheriff Waters said.

More than 30 people were arrested in Jacksonville in two days for the operation. Sheriff Waters highlighted two cases specifically. Robert Horvath and Michael Brockway were arrested in sting operations while deputies said they were traveling to have sex with underaged children.

24 people were arrested in Nassau County where Sheriff Leeper said their focus for the operation was on prostitution.

"A lot of these prostitutes are victims of the sex trade. They go into it before they are adults and end up trapped in it. It gives us an opportunity to get them out of that trade," he said.

"For a woman to end up that way, something has happened to her in her childhood," Sandra Shin, the founder of Hope for Freedom, said.

The pain of human trafficking is personal for her. Shin was sold for sex by her mother in Jamaica at just 11 years old. She has since escaped and moved to Jacksonville.

I've seen her on several occasions at her house in Arlington. She is legit but only does the head game, but it is on point. Yeah Honestly I was coming to make a similar post. I responded to a few Doublelist ad's and 2 were immediate responses claiming to be 13/14 but very mature did a quick 180 out of that convo. Little bit later the ads were gone. Definitely feels like stings are going on right now. Honestly I'd hope no one here is looking for that kind of action.

This ad also kept continuously reposting today. The person on the end of the phone asked how old I was, I said 30 something. They said "are you ok with me being only 14?

I stopped contact and blocked immediately. The ad is still up now, but just in case here's both the link and a screenshot of the ad.

I wouldn't be surprised if what you described will happen in Duval, although I'm still shocked that people will show up somewhere when the person has made it clear they are underage. However, when I contacted that person they responded with, "just so you know, I'm only 14. " I told the person at the other end of the text string, "No thanks. " Not long after that, a bunch of guys were arrested in St. Johns county for "attempting to meet an underage person" and similar crimes. Some time later, the same ad appeared for someone claiming to be providing in Nassau county (I did not contact that person again). Again, when I checked the Nassau County jail log for the week after that ad was posted, a bunch of guys were arrested for the same thing as the SJC people. Just an FYI.
