These might include checking a place out for relatives coming to visit, a disagreement at home, upcoming remodeling or pest treatment, an impending relationship separation, looking for a place for fun with your side piece. If you're not local, it's perfectly plausible to check a place out and decide to go somewhere else. There is nothing illegal or even odd about being at a motel with a reason.

I made a booking for an hour on Sunday night at 1130. Location was in Milford's Motel 6. I drove down into the parking lot and parked in the back. Then as I was walking in towards the front entrance of the hotel, I saw a police SUV. Definitely got stared down.
