Any of the gals I go to meet I'll do a search on them. I check the reviews to make sure they're legit. This site is so valuable to all of us to prevent these situations.

Couple suggestions I could make.

If you're going to meet at their apartment, they ask what color or make car you drive that's a red flag. Leave.

Survey the area, cars around you. Be sure you have a good escape route.

Survey the place, stairwell, bathroom, under bed.

Bring only the dough with you and nothing else.

To answer your question, I do my best that will keep me out of that situation. I've been doing this for over 40 years so I guess you can say experience helps.
