We are in the process of launching a Classified site here at the USASG called The USA Adult Classifieds. It will be live nationwide in less than a month. We noticed some guys were posting alternatives to RedBook. While we wouldn't have closed this while RedBook was running, since it's closed we would prefer to promote our site over a new one.

I'm a bit behind the news curve, I just found out about Redbook. I wasn't an avid user, but I did use their website to help cross-check and research girls. Because the ads were more detailed, it was easier to figure out what was actually offered.

From what I've read so far, it seems the money-laundering / tax evasion is the primary cause the Feds went after them. The "promotion of illegal activities" was just the backdoor they used, so they could seize more and have a better PR spin. This is an election year after all, so LE across the nation will be looking for their high profile bust.

I'm not sure how listing "sex acronyms" constitutes promoting illegal activity. If that's the case, a TON of escort and AMP review sites will be in trouble. Providing a dictionary of words simply helps their readership decipher what's being posted, so they understand what's being presented in front of them. If that's illegal then we might as well arrest every language translator who happens to translate illegal or foul speech or text.

Unless there's any proof that Redbook was taking a cut from "donations" that escorts received from clients, then I don't see how Redbook is legally complicit for the behavior and actions that users do away from their site.

Though this probably why BP is careful not to allow ads that have sex acronyms or "menus". They don't want to give the Feds a perceived opening.

What I don't understand is, from a health, safety, and "quality of life" standpoint, sites like BP, Redbook and others actually improve those things. It takes sex workers off the street, which makes it less visible to the average citizen. Shady things can still happen in hotels but if you're at least a half-way decent hotel, then they act as a bit of lower level security for both the escort and client. At worst a girl may try to steal something from my wallet, but I don't have to worry about getting stabbed or shot. The websites also make it so meeting in hotels is safer that have been vetted by the community. If a guy or girl wants to be extra safe, they can just go on dates with verified members of the community. LE also uses these sites and it makes it easier for them to track and indict pimps.

Trying to knock down these sites, just move things underground and put everyone in more unsafe situations. Not to mention, you might start seeing more street level activity, which will affect the neighborhood quality of life. It's clear the Redbook take down was primarily a money grab, but it's definitely short-sighted. Even before several states started legalizing pot, the government was moving in the right direction by letting the small stuff go and not trying to take down and indict everything that had a "420" reference. When it comes to prostitution, they really should take that approach. Focus on the actual sex trafficking organizations and not waste resources on what two independent consenting adults do. If a website exists which makes it easier and safer to get together, then they shouldn't give a damn about it.

That said, any business that skirts the grey area of the moral / legal line should be smart enough to pay their taxes. Uncle Sam will often look the other way if he gets his cut.

It's been a week now and we know a little more about the charges brought on Eric Omuro and Annmarie Lanoce. The feds have a weak case, but win or lose they reached their objective which is to bring the website down never mind that there are 100's of other sites that do the same thing. Redbook was a particular one was popular and they let "escorts" post any picture that they wanted, had reviews, and had a list of acronym. It is hypocrisy it seems like they invented a bunch of charges throw them at the suspects and see which one if any will stick. We already see less women posting on BP and you would have to be a fool right now to come out with another web site similar to redbook. I mean the easy access and the fact that it was wide open is what ultimately lead to the website catching law enforcement attention. What are the girls going to do now? Are they going to have to start hanging out their hotel rooms in there underwear? Is that what we want?

Agree. There's a reason the charges are money laundering rather than pimping, pandering or prostitution. There are many laws protecting a website operator from what others post on their website, including section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. It would appear that the charges are based on the likelihood that those advertising on Redbook do not pay taxes. Redbook would have be to idiots not to pay taxes on their membership dues, since they're all processed by credit card. As such, there needs to be a way to tie the girls to the website, other than the simple fact that they're posting. I would think any link would be tenuous, but we'll see. Smells like feds using the power and money of the government to shut down a site they don't like regardless of the legality. It's pretty apparent to me that we've become a banana republic where certain laws are not being enforced due to politics or the will of those in power, and at other times crimes are just being made up.

I was liking this site, **************, as a potential replacement but they just changed so you have to request reviews from the author. Really stupid and such a pain to have to wait. The owner of this site has destroyed it before it even really got off the ground.

I still don't understand why naming some sites is okay but others are taboo, and I've been on here practically since day 1. Oh well, no harm meant, Jackson.
