What were your rookie mistakes and any other advice for a first timer to cross the border?

First big mistake was overpaying at Adelitas (140), which was admittedly dumb. You really should never pay more than 100, even if it's still cheaper than US rates.

Second was paying for food at the HK for a girl I wasn't really clicking with. Not worth the wait unless you can have a full convo with her, otherwise hard pass.

Thanks to all of you that responded to my question about Tijuana. I hadn't gone in over a year (and never that early) but yesterday was great. Crossed at 1130 and was at HK in no time. Walked in had a few beers and checked out the quality of talent. It was great (even that early in the day) . Settled for this blond that looked like a model and took her upstairs. Came back and crossed in all of 15 minutes and all I can think of is "why the hell did I wait so long to come back!

I just got back from trying out the Zona, and I will definitely go back. I live in the OC, and will drop a note in that forum as well. The two hour drive to the border is really no big deal, especially since I stayed at the Hotel Cascadas. I made some rookie mistakes, but nothing too dumb. Anyway, here's the important stuff:

1) Parked at the lot near PedWest, ended up being about $80 for all three days. Probably could do cheaper than this, but it's literally across the street and there's a currency exchange place on the way to the crossing.

2) The basic rooms at Cascadas are nothing special, but they work. I was on the 6th floor, and I think if was lower down I would have needed earplugs. I took a glance at one of the hottub rooms where the door was left open for cleaning staff, and those are nicer, but probably only worth it if you're wealthy and / or have an adventurous girlfriend that you're bringing along. The hotel restaurant is OK and cheap, and has a balcony where you can see the back alley -- which is good if you want to preview the street girls or watch the federales make one of their periodic drive thrus (rifles and masks, the full "do not fuck with us" routine).

3) Got the HK VIP card, and as others have said, this is only worth the $50 if you are staying at the hotel. The other perks just don't add up, particularly the half-off lap dance which is pointless (see below).

3) The HK / Cascadas exchange rate was lower than the US side exchange place, so by paying for the VIP card and my room in pesos, I actually netted about 3 free beers from arbitrage.

4) The HK is amazing, and a $8+tip lady drink will get you a full contact dance at your seat that is better than most private room dances in the US (both longer and fewer rules). There is no point whatsoever to the 5-minute private lap dances, nothing more will happen than from a lady drink, and you have to get up and go somewhere else and pay twice as much. I did not try the 30-minute VIP room experience for $50, and I suspect there's foreplay stuff involved. . . Maybe someone else knows.

5) Got suckered into buying a food item for a girl at the HK. Do not do this unless you are able to converse with her (my spanish is terrible) because by the time it arrives you either already want to be headed to the room, or you want her to leave. I found one girl that I bought two drinks for, because her English was good and we were mid conversation, but other than that it was one drink, catch and release, unless I planned to take her upstairs.

6) I went into the Bar Gold behind the HK because I was out for a stroll and the barker made a good pitch. It's dingy as fuck, and the girls seem to be either barely legal and kind of GND, or 30's and skanky, with nothing in between. I almost hooked up with a cute girl that was maybe 20, but the management tried to upsell me on the room and amount of time in a really pushy way and I bailed. She seemed as put off as I was, since they killed her sale. Would not recommend.

7) I also tried Adelitas at one point, and I liked the more reserved pace, but I have a sour memory because I gave in to the little head and paid extra for BBBJ from a girl I met there. Wasn't worth it. Also, the staff at their hotel set up a gauntlet in the hallway on my way out to shake tips out of me. I tipped the guy who was actually there to tidy the room, not the four other dudes just taking a smoke break. I would go again, since the upsell was my fault, not the bar's.

8) There are some hidden gems among the street girls. I got a quick fuck with a girl who would easily be mid-range at the HK for $25 including the room. The room, OTOH, was amazingly shitty. But, it's a short time hotel in Tijuana that literally has no name. . . So, it's fine I guess?

9) The famous taco stand is awesome, although the ticket system is chaotic when they're busy -- especially if you're buzzed and trying it out for the first time. There's also a decent restaurant across Coahuilla from Adelitas that I got breakfast at one morning (unlike the hotel restaurant, their chips are actually good).

10) Considered trying Chicago, but never made it. Next time.

My total damage for three days, six girls, and all expenses, was about $1000.

Side note: Are there any zona bars that have Modelo? My biggest complaint is having to settle for Tecate.

I have not done a all nighter in years but use to be girls in the clubs until they start restocking at like 4-5 AM.

In the last year I can confirm that hot girls who are fun are available noon until 2 AM Friday and Sat. My weekday info needs more recent data points.

I usually go mid afternoon and almost never stay after dark, but that is just me. I have always been able to find a unicorn at HK and also have always been able to find multiple attractive and fun street girls in the alley. Does the action step up at night? I am told it does. I have just found good talent during the day.

Everybody's story is different because there are just a lot of pretty girls and prostitution is legal and socially acceptable.

It is anyone's guess, I have been to most of the clubs as early as 8 AM and yes from time to time you can find a gem but more often than naught wait until at least early afternoon, such as 1 PM as you will have better chances.

I don't know about contact, but I believe the place was called Mermaids Classico, or something close to that. It's across from HK, between The Tropical and OXXO. I went in there once, when a guy on the street outside talked me into trying it out. He showed me a line up of about 6-7 cute young girls inside, I picked the one I like, I paid him the $40 he wanted for the massage, and we went back to her room. It was a dingy bare bed in a tiny room. She gave me like a quick half ass 10 minute back massage, and then she started offering other services for more money. Which was pretty much what I assumed what was going to end up happening.

I have gone there twice since Dec. The first time I saw just over 10 girls. Lot of cute young ones. I passed a really good looker for a solid 8. 5 girl wearing something straight out of a Victoria secret shop. It was 40 to the guy for a hour and the girl starts off at $100 for CBJ and cfs. I probably could have gotten her to $80 but I was enjoying what she was wearing. Really good service. She was either really getting into it or deserved an Oscar for acting. Since this is your first time I urge you to use due caution in the Zona. The Zona is reasonably safe, but always look to see who is walking behind you. Also stick to the main part of the Zona.
