I've been numerous times and always at night on Friday or weekends around 2000 to 3 in the morning. I've taken taxis, walked a couple times from border down dark alleys to the zona. No problems for me, but then again the military took me to worst places (Iraq and Afghanistan). As long as they don't behead me then I can fight to live another day. I never had any problems and always keep my head on a swivel. I don't feel unsafe in Mexico. The only time I've felt threatened is in downtown New Orleans. Just use some common sense and have fun. The taco stand on the corner of HK has the best adobadas too.

Posts: 151San Ysidro border to Honk Kong -- the only way
I just got back from 3 days (Sun night through this afternoon) and stayed at Hotel Cascadas the entire time. I have walked in and out (quickly) of a few of the other bars because nothing in TJ compares to Honk Kong so why goes elsewhere? As a note, on my way down, I call the hotel and let the know I'm Enroute and give them an approx 15-20 min window of when I should cross (by foot). FYI. Always park on the EAST side of 805 so you can walk into Mexico easily and return right back to your vehicle. Once you get through their customs check, just mind your biz while you're walking and don't make a bunch of eye contact (but stay alert of course). Once you get to where the cabbies are all asking if you want a ride, look for a guy in a black suite / dressed nice. I made eye contact with him and he asked are you going to HK? I said yes and he said follow him. We walked for only one min past the cabs to the The Zona Shuttle parking lot. The problem I is most Americans are eager and don't know the Zona Shuttle service is right there next to all the cabs, so they trust a random cab driver (in a dirty cab) to take them to the spot. There is parking lot with a big sign "ZONA Shuttle". Just past the cabs on the right. Just go there and they will take you directly to HK, Adelitas, Tropical, wherever you want right there on the strip for free (expect to Tip though). This past time they styled me out and drove me by myself in the stretch limo. It felt just right pulling up to my second home in style.
One other word of advice. Take good care of the drivers and hotel security at HK and Zona Shuttle. They will remember you. They'll bring to you the front of the lines, greet you friendly with handshakes, always go out of their way for you. Same goes with the guys in the bar at HK. As soon as I walk in now, I have a couple of them running up to me most of the time. They don't make shit for money down there, so if you treat them well they'll go out of their way for you.
Lastly. I've got some great trophy pics of 6 or 7 of the girls I played with this trip that I'll post soon. Now that I've been down a dozen times or more, I know the game, how to work the deal and get everything I want. I also only take the 9+ types up. This time the selection was surprisingly exceptional though, especially for mid-week.

Has anyone stayed at The Caesar Hotel. Could I just arrive on a weekday morning and book a room without a problem? Thanks.

Posts: 2081The Zona is reasonably safe. But always look to see who is walking behind you & never let your guard down. Stick to the north part of the Zona and do leave the main part of the Zona.

If tourists were regularly put in unsafe situations, they wouldn't come back. Read all you can about Tijuana and know what to expect, and you'll be fine.

Tijuana sounds awesome. A little nervous to cross the border. Have any of you guys had safety issues while visiting. That is my main concern as I will be traveling alone.

Posts: 204Thanks Eddie and Marc for the intel. I'm trying to find a hotel in the area that allows checking in around 8 am and I'd be gone by 4 pm, but Cascadas and hotel Rizo de oro only allow 3-4 pm checkin. They should really cater better to us during the day, but wanted to find a place to relax in between sessions. I might be able to get a better answer going in person as the email from Cascadas seemed like a cut and paste from their official policy. Never would have thought Mon-Wed would have a lot of talent. I miss going and that taco stand on the corner with the adobadas, but schedule doesn't allow it unless I go during the workday. One day I'll have to make the trek.

Info still about the same. Always fun time down south. I'm glad this rain finally stopped so I can take a little trip.

Anyone go down during the afternoon or during a weekday? I usually go at night on weekends, but have obligations. I am trying to find out if talent is around during the afternoon during the week. Last time I went was about 2 years ago and rates were $60 to $80 plus room fee. Thanks!
