Been busy and haven't been able to post, but here goes: I was out early Sat.morning (4am) and it was pretty dead up and down Cicero Ave. Went way east on Madison for the first time in a 6 moths or so. You are right. There is no strip club there. You have Polekatz just west of Harlem by 105th St., but that is about 6 miles away, or 30 min because of traffic. The only "club" in the area is All Stars and that is just a fashion show.

Hey Guys,

I'm not trying to start a debate here, but what the strip club used was an authorization amount. Any time you go to a restaurant (or other tipping establishment) they use an authorization amount. This is kinda like a rental car company putting a hold on your CC. Anyways, there are two reasons strip clubs, bars and restaurants use this. The first being that all to often a customer will erite the tip on the credit card and then go over the limit because of the tip. As a result of this, the establishment has to pay extra fees on top of the 2% they automatically pay because of the overdraft to the card. The second reason an establishment uses an authorization amount is avoid higher processing fees. If a card is swiped for $10. 00 and a $2. 00 tip is left the establishment must pay a higher processing fee, because the final amount is greater than what the card was swiped for. The strip club uses the less popular of the two main options for using an authorization amount. Instead of a flat fee (like the club), most places authorize anywhere from 15% to 40 % over the swiped amount.

The next time that you go to a restaurant and pay with your bank card, go home and look at your account online and you will see the discrepency. The processing will take 2-3 business days. The authorization amounts has been going on for years, but it has been recently, with the popularity of bank cards that this has become an increasing issue. For years, by the time you would receive your statement in the mail, the whole process had gone full circle and few people were aware of it. Today, with the bank card, if you do not put a PIN in, the card acts like a VISA/MC and the authorization charge is easily seen online. The problem is that this will actually tie up real money in your accounts.

I apologize for this very long post, but I just wanted to help clear up this situation. In case you were wondering, I operate seven restaurants in the city and this is a semi-common phone call we deal with during our course of business. Marak5, the lady that you talked to on the phone should have explained this better to you on the phone. If anyone wants more info on the authorization just send me a PM.

I stopped going to stirp clubs long ago because of shit like this. About 7 years ago I was putting together a big private music event for press, TV, retail and radio down in Houston. I had a big name star performing and his new CD was coming out the next week. I had all my local sales and marketing reps from all over Texas there helping out and smoozing our accounts. My local reps all were very helpful that night and worked their asses off. So to show my appreciation I took the 3 who helped the most out to a very high end strip club. Flashed the corporate Amex and they wisked us up to the VIP area. After what seemed like 20 minutes, but was probably 2 hours I ask what the tab is. $1,500 she says and I'm like oh fuck!!! I told her we all better get bjs now or I'll call the CC company and have the charge denied. 15 minutes later we all had our fun, 2 bjs and 2 hjs. Off we went and the bill totaled $1,800. I was very worried I couldn't expense this and would be out $1,800 but I came clean to my boss and he says no problem just put down that you took 30 people to dinner and don't ever do this again. Whew, off the hook!

That was my last visit to a strip club, but it was damn fun and the company paid for it. Wish I still worked for him/them...oh well back to the street girls!

Yeah, they are trying to rip you off. They know most guys who frequent their club are married so they probably get away with over half the time. Which is really stupid, a happy married customer is a repeat married customer. But you weren't spending much money by your own admission so they may have thought wtf.

They are in business to make as much money as possible and if your going to be cheap. Yes, you're being cheap. A strip club is not a free peep show or free hook up place. They want to make money and $15 is not making money. I'm not trying to be critical of you but if you don't plan on spending much bring cash. It keeps everything simple you only spend as much as bring. I've only used a CC a couple of times when I was going through a divorce and was heading for bankruptcy so I didn't care. But I spent a couple of hundred so the club made their profit from me with out having to rip me off.

Guys...on my way home from the city on Tues/Wed night I stopped at this strip club down Harlem off I55. I wont mention the name.

Tues I went and it wasn't bad. Possibly some convention at Midway caus it was kind of packed and a bunch of cabs were going to hotels. Now my goal in this place is to just hook up with a dancers # for times outside the club. I might get a lap dance here and there, but I sit there and drink club sodas, so I dont spend too much. Complete waste to spend big bucks in these places and get blue balls in return.

Quite a few dancers approaced, mostly black ones. We have our chat then I let em down easy. When they ask for a dance, I just tell em "maybe next time" as corny as I can possibly muster. I say it to every one so most of them are on to my scheme at this point. But I make an attempt to get them to laugh so quite a few will come back and chat with me or want to meet with me outside (for $ of course).

I had a decent time on Tues so I went back on Wednesday. Most of the bouncers recognized me and Im making small chat with all the workers. Eventually this guy behind the bar gives me some passes for free cover which Ill use. Im getting some decent attention from the dancers without spending much money which is good. Its getting closer to closing time so this black girl comes and sits on my lap, and I buy her a drink. She mentions that she wants to bang this night, but shes not all that, probably lower 3 in the club so Im not interested and just kind of leading her one caus I have no one else to talk to. So then this hot girl walks past and I tell the black girl to get off my lap I want a dance from this girl...theyre both kind of like wtf.

I have 20 bucks in my pocket for 1 dance. Get it, want another caus I like this girl and shes giving great contact. Just run to the atm afterwards to pay her so no problem. So we finish and I have to grab my card from behind the bar caus I had a tab open. Go to the atm..insufficient funds. I had just put money in like 5 hours early so I was like wtf. The big guido'ed out dude is watching me close "what is that thing out of money" haha dickhead Im thinking. Im also thinking these guys are gonna bring me in the back and kick the shit out of me.

So I think quick and I say to the manager "hey listen theres a 10 dollar charge on the atm, if I get funny money at 50 dollar minimum the fee is 5 dollars so Id rather do that than get cash." Go to the front register, closed, go upstairs, closed. All the managers talking to me. I think Im in deep shit. So I go the bouncer and Im like "hey I live 5 minutes away, keep my wallet and coat here and Ill go home to get the money and be right back." He tells me you cant do that but I just give him my wallet and run out. Come back in 10 minutes and pay him and hes all buddy buddy with me, best friend in the world, gives me more free passes.

The next morning theres a 100 dollar pending charge to my account from the club, no wonder I couldnt get money out. My tab was like 15 dollars so thats 85 unaccounted for. I go there with a print out of my account, dude gives me the "corporate" # to talk to a Tony (a woman). She doesnt deny that they charged 100 on an 15 dollar tab. I ask her, "why would they charge me 100?" she says "Oh they dont know how long youre gonna stay, blah blah" lol ok whatever. She says "oh that will be dropped by next Wednesday."
Not paying attention really what shes saying, not sure exactly what day it is either. Couple hours later I realize, todays Thursday, takes a week to get the money back? Call Chase and talk to a dispute agent. He says no theyre not allowed to charge you 100 just in case (illegal), takes 48 hours to post the correct amount back to your account. If they dont post the correct amount call back to disput.

Today I call Toney again.
Me: What day did you say that would be posted back to my account?
Her: Wednesday
Me: Well I talked to the cc company, they said it should take 48 hours
Her: Oh we dont batch until Thursday, were kind of "different"
Me: Im sure you are different, why does it take me 10 days to get the money back
Her: Wed to Wed isnt 10 days you were there Wed night
Me: 48 hours from Thurs is Monday
Her: Yeah youre getting the money Monday
Me: Yeah thats not Wednesday is it
Her: I said we post after 48 hours
