Well, having been once in Vegas I do rememberthe Strat being pretty far from the Strip, it's just that I had a good deal on a 5 nights stay right before the halloween weekend (26-31 0ct...about 300$ which is good considering that dollar is weak against euros now...)

BUt now after reading your suggestions I will definitely staty somewhere else..luxor and mgm are a bit more expensive but it looks like there's quite good action there ;-)

Howdy all. I'm getting to be a rather old guy, and for most of my adult life have threatened to go to Vegas, but never could get around to it. Well, I finally said "enough is enough", made the arrangements, and saw myself landing at Mccarren Airport on 9/6/2010. Believe me, I knew I was really there when I saw the slot machines in the arrival gate. Unbelievable, but like I said, this was my first trip. I stayed through 9/12, and flew out on Monday the 13th.

I'm a long time lurker here, have never posted until now, and relied heavily on this site to do my homework before the trip. In short, I RTFF, all of it. It proved to be a goldmine of useful information. Please, all you who have posted such useful information here, accept my warmest thanks.

I was checked in my room (MGM Grand), unpacked, and ready to explore by 5pm Vegas time, Monday, 9/6. I quickly discovered something that I used to my advantage the entire trip. If you look like I do, I. E. I would stay somewhere else if you have a choice. The Strat is just so far away from everything else and is kind of isolated. Not much CG action to be had there I have heard. There are several casinos closer to the action with similar rates if you are looking for a deal: Harrahs, Ballys, Excalibur, Tropicana, etc.

Well, not really pick ups. I'm new at this and had an interesting experience. I was at the Hilton and saw a BCG and followed her as she walked out.
