The mandatory valet isn't to keep you or your car safe it's to keep you from skipping out on a tab (bar or dancer), the bar will not give you your car back until you pay your tab.

Several reasons I don't do valet parking. I don't let anyone drive my ride other than my mechanic. I think the reason they require valet parking is for control. If there's a disagreement, they could lise your keys. Of course you should have a spare key you give the valet, not your main keychain. They don't want to call the cops unless they absolutely have to, so any dispute about the cost of dances can be settled by leaving. Not so with valet parking, you still have to get your car.
