Just something that I have noticed. The quality local providers have never asked me for the donation up front. In fact they never asked for it at all. Perhaps that is the tip off. The ones that do not give satisfactory service know they need to ask up front. If they wait until after a less than stellar performance, they may not get it. And of course the rip off artist definitely ask up front. Don't pay up front. Perhaps you should have asked what the cab fare was and only gave her that small amount.
