Gave me his name and badge number (Officer John Murray,#121520. I hope I can post this information since the officer in question seem to be fake). He claimed I contacted (call and texts) this person.

Back in July 19 at 7:20 pm several times asking for sex services. I checked my log and found out I only made 1 phone call (at 4:29 pm) and no texts so I knew something was suspicious. (Never use your real number when contacting an escort. Always use a burner or app that allow you to create a secondary number (ex. 2 ndLine). Was a stupid mistake on my part which I rarely use my real number). Anyways, he proceed to give an elaborate detailed explanations about the supposed victim (the escort, a minor) and family and how a investigation was being conducted right at that moment. Long story short, he said 2 officers would be at my house tonight to arrest me until investigation was over IF I did not proceed to walmart to pay a diplomatic bill compensation of $1280. He told me to he wanted an immediate answer whether I will make the payment today or proceed to the arrest. Told him I would contact my lawyer and discuss it over.

There have been numerous cases of this scams in the past couple years. I myself have gotten 3, making this the 4th one. The previous 3 were very easy to spot out. This one, however, was much more detailed and create a sense of urgency and worry so that I would end up paying. It almost felt really real. I am almost 100% sure this was a scam though. But in the likely scenario that it was not, I went ahead and call the El Monte police department to verify the officer call, which was the pacific community police department number (310-482-6334). Explained my situation to dispatch and she rudely and impatiently told me to contact the sacramento police department instead. Called the El Monte police department number and explain my situation there. Dispatch realized immediately it was the same person and said my coworker already explain to you what to do and rudely ask if there was anything else and hung up. Your tax dollar at work here people.

To those who are new to this scam, hopefully this post can shed some light for you to avoid any serious future mistakes. Scammers can mask their number and make it look like the actual law enforcement number so googling is useless. You can hang up and call back that same number to see if it is the same person to verify. Also, they will have had some information on you to scare you into making the payment.

Always remember, the United States government and law enforcement will NEVER ask for any form of payment, including gift cards or Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, to avoid an arrest.
