That's pretty sage advice. I do have a VPN so that's probably what's happening. It's not worth it for me to pioneer without a digital condom. Thanks for the insight.

DDoS attacks. I have to switch through half dozen VPN servers to find one to get access sometimes because of them.

I don't have problem on my end. If it's still down, try clear and reset your browser. One time Escortalligator redirected me to a different site for a few days until I clear and reset my browser. I probably clicked on one of the infected ads to have that happened.

I would strongly recommend a VPN configured on your laptop / tablet / cell phone, and if you don't run TOR over the VPN for extra protection, at least browse exclusively in Incognito or Private mode in your browser.

I'm not saying it's foolproof, but I'm very vigilant around ensuring my browsing history remains clean (without having to clear it frequently, which is a big red flag) and so far I've not seen anything I've done incognito has stuck around. Not in browser history, not in cache, not in cookies.

You can get a router that enables you to configure VPN for your entire network, but that only protects traffic from your network's egress point out to the Internet forward. Anything snooping on your network (say, from another device in your house running a sniffer) would still see all your traffic in the clear. That's why configuring the VPN on the device you're using to browse the web is best. Then the traffic is encrypted from the moment it leaves your browser.

    Stay safe!
The Firefox browser can be set up to delete history and cookies when you quit the browser. You.

Can also load some good safety extensions like Privacy Badger and you-Block origin.

    TOR for ProtonMail is ok

As far as the bolded part goes, perhaps I am lucky as I can use proton through tor. If you need a VPN, I see that the proton people have just come out with their own VPN called ProtonVPN! I am sure that would work with the mail app too!

I like the idea of using an app for things, but onc you buy in an online app store? Seems like app purchases have to be tied to some kind of bank account or CC that here in the USA you have to prove your real identity to get? So doesn't that purchase then leave a trail to your real identity? If so, then how is it anonymous?

Maybe I need to learn a bit?
Yes. Its tough to avoid a money trail online but with threema all you have is a trail that you purchased the app. There is no identifier and when you set up the user I'd you can skip linking it to a phone number, e-mail and your contacts. So all that exists are messages on the end users phones which are from a randomly generated user I'd and you can delete the app and when you do the random I'd on your phone gets deleted. Only the I'd and a password can recover the account if you want later or you re-install the app and set up a new account to message. If you have contacts you need to save those elsewhere. Everything else is encrypted. Its safer than the free apps people use from the app stores that track and log everything. You pay for the app not for the account you set up on it.

There are some similar open source apps to threema you can get for free for android phones via f-droid. But that limits use to android only users and it requires you to know how to install apps on your phone from sources other than the google store which might confuse some people. I also have an open source app that spoofs my phone location so any apps with access or that track location get false info when I activate it.

I have a separate checking account through a bank that issues ATM cards onsite for purchases and I set it to paperless. The email associated with that account is a proton mail account and the phone number is my walmart pay as you go phone reupped with cash. Keeps my real life finances and my hobby money separate in the rare cases I need it and no questions for anything from anyone that might see my normal account. I make deposits to that account with cash via the ATM machine or drive through at the bank. I try to do most shit with cash or brick and mortar. You can get a cheap smart phone and buy cards with cash to put time / data on them from walmart or similar then use burner app or google phone for a disposable number on that phone. Use your VPN (MulvadVPN gets rated well for privacy) to open a gmail account. Just use that for an android phone to get access to the play store and never access it without a VPN. Use VPN servers in Iceland, Finland, Sweden, or Switzerland. Most people are just hiding from the providers or hiding their hobby from friends / family. You can only do so much to hide from anyone else but it does help put up some roadblocks and disconnects.

You can connect to free mail servers with a VPN its the tor network traffic their security bots will flag and freeze your account. TOR and VPN are different. Nord VPN has double VPN servers and Onion servers (these are Tor VPN servers for all your internet traffic, not just your web browser. Everytime I use tor and access yandex or proton the account gets disabled but I guess that doesn't happen to everyone. I like it better that my ISP can't see what I'm doing and where I go on the net by using a VPN. You can only minimise your exposure. Encrypt as much as possible and also use strongest passwords and use an encrypted password manager. LastPass works pretty good.

Even if you are just looking at sites its advisable to access everything through a VPN and / or TOR (onion) browsers. Just don't use tor to access e-mail servers like yandex or protonmail. They will disable your account until you cough up another e-mail or phone number to get the account enabled again. Another option would be to use Tails Linux on a bootable USB drive for everything and use a password manager for your sites and use strongest passwords possible just to be safe. Even MX linux on bootable would work for most people.

I wish providers and people would start using Threema for texting / messaging. Its only 3 bucks in the app store and its much safer than anything else out there. Threema can be pin protected to launch and you can remove it from the phone and as long as you know the unique user code and the back up password can be recovered later but otherwise everything is encrypted and messages aren't stored anywhere, get deleted off the swiss server as soon as they are routed to the destination successfully.

Are the webmasters that stupid? Won't be long before ATF, the FBI or some other law enforcement agency pays attention. That surely will get the site shut down. No obvious way to report an advert either and apparently they aren't policing thier own site?

This is the kind of shit that brings unwanted attention to the hobby and makes it harder on all of us in the long run.

Keep drugs & guns out of the hobby!
Exactly. Backpage bit the dust by not paying attention. These guys are next.
